P R E F A C E
The extraordinary success that followed the publication of the First
Series of THE OLD MERCHANTS OF NEW YORK, was quite unexpected. Many
editions have been exhausted, and it is still in active demand. This, the
Second, is the continuation of the series in regular order, and may be found
more interesting even than the first.
The material is as correct as it was possible to make it up to the
time of the publication. The chapters will be fully revised and corrected in
subsequent editions, and the author will cordially thank any one who is
better informed than himself as to particular merchants or their families,
alluded to in any of the series or chapters, if they will send their
corrections, or additional information, to the residence of
