Designer and Maker of Artistic Furniture and Interior Decorations Nos. 262 and 264 Court Street Fulton and Flatbush Avenues.- In making up a record of the mercantile establishments of Brooklyn, it is particularly desirable to mention those classes of houses which are the best representatives of each special line of source of supply: As a leading establishment in the city engaged in the manufacture of modern artistic furniture, etc., may be mentioned the popular and well-patronized house of Mr. P. W. Schmitz. This business was inaugurated by the present proprietor in 1853, since which period he has built up an extensive patronage from the refined, wealthy, and educated classes of society. The extensive show-rooms are marvels of elegance, taste, and beauty, and are fully stocked with a splendid assortment of modern artistic furniture, interior decorations, and handsome objects of art and use, arrayed with excellent effect, and constituting but a small portion of the stock of this reliable house. The greater part of the furniture is made from the rarest woods, and carved in the most workmanlike and artistic manner, from unique and original designs and patterns. The house makes a specialty of upholstering, importing many of its beautiful embroidered and baud-worked textures from the most celebrated establishments of Europe and the East. Many of the most elegant boudoirs, parlors, reception-rooms, libraries, and dining- rooms of the wealthy and refined in Brooklyn and its vicinity have been entirely furnished by Mr. Schmitz, who i a thorough artist, and possesses every facility to satisfy the most aesthetic tastes of lovers of really fine furniture and artistic decorations. Mr. Schmitz likewise attends carefully to fresco painting and decorating, and has gained an enviable reputation for his skill in the artistic blending of colors and shades, He is assisted by his son, Mr. F. 14. W. Schmitz, who is a young man of great promise and ability. Mr. P. W. Schmitz was born in Germany, but has resided in Brooklyn for the last thirty-five years, where he has made hosts of friends in consequence of his sound business principles and inflexible integrity. The future prospects of this responsible house are of the most promising character, and the success attained is only the just reward of the proprietor's ability, enterprise, and industry.
