Mr. Smith, who is a native of London, England, and is regarded as a 
first-class workman in every department of his trade, started business 
at the address indicated in 1873, and it has been attended by the most 
marked and encouraging success. 

His store has a frontage of 20 feet and a depth of 40 feet, and it is 
very tastefully fitted up and appointed, with a very large and well-selected 
stock of wall papers of both foreign and domestic manufacture, window 
shades in great variety, mixed and dry paints, oils, varnishes, etc., 
all of which are offered at the lowest market prices. Paperhanging, 
graining, painting, and calcimining are severally conducted with spirit, 
enterprise, and efficiency, and from ten to twenty hands are permanently 
employed, he has decorated many public buildings and churches all over 
Brooklyn, New York, Inwood, N. J., among them Corby's Hall, etc.
