D.- This substantial and valuable house was founded as far back as 1859 by Mr. Philip Strauss, who conducted it alone until 1877, when he admitted his son, Mr. William Strauss, to partnership and organized the present firm. The business done is very large and the demand is constantly increasing, the popularity of the establishment growing with its years. The premises occupied measure 25x- 95 feet, and contain one of the most complete and attractive stocks of men's, boys', and youths' clothing to be found in Brooklyn. The assortments embrace every grade, from the cheapest to the most expensive, and in correctness of style, variety of pattern, excellence of material, and artistic finish, the productions represent the very best that the market affords. Messrs. Strauss & Co. carry no trashy goods, preferring to serve their customers with such as are reliable and will bear the most searching examination. The prices, however, are fully as low as those asked for inferior clothing elsewhere. The firm operate a custom department which necessitates the employment of between twenty-five and thirty expert tailors, The garments are made up with every possible attention to detail and are perfection in fit, fashion, and workmanship. A full stock of foreign and domestic cloths and cassimeres is kept constantly on hand, including all the most recent novelties. The Messrs. Strauss' are prominent and respected citizens, alive to all the demands of the times.
