THE EASTERN DISTRICT

The Citizen's Union Cemetery was incorporated  in November 1851
and was located on the west of Hunterfly Rd. b/w Sterling Place 
& Eastern Pwky. & b/w Rochester & Ralph Aves. 

It took in 12 acres. The main entrancewas on Sterling Place opposite Buffalo Ave. on the north.

In 1879, the burying ground was known as Mount Pleasant Cemetery. 

It had been established particularly for the burial of colored people, as there were restrictions in that respect in most other cemeteries.
The association had purchased 30 acres of land, but only 12 were laid out for burial purposes.
