49 MOTORISTS LOSE THEIR LICENSES IN FORTNIGHT 
NINETEEN ARE ACCUSED OF HAVING DRIVEN WHEN INTOXICATED 

ALBANY, JAN 7. 
Forty-nine motorists in the Brooklyn-Long Island district 
lost their registrations and licenses to drive cars during 
the two weeks ending Dec. 29. Charles A. Hartnett, 
Commissioner of Motor Vehicles announced today. 
Of this number, 19 were penalized on charges of having 
driven cars while intoxicated; four were unlicensed; seven 
failed to notify the bureau of a change of address; five 
were accused of having left the scenes of accidents without 
reporting, and four were charged with reckless driving. 
Of the total number of 618 who were penalized to the extent 
of revocation or suspension of their licenses, 310 must show 
proof of financial responsibility before new licenses will be 
issued. In the Brooklyn and Manhattan districts their were 113 
revocations and 248 suspensions.
