Bolden was 116-years old. Charlotte Pierce of the Mid-South Health and Rehabilitation Center, Bolden’s residence at the time of her demise, indicated that a recent stroke she experienced in 1994 impaired her speech and caused her to spend a good portion of her last two years sleeping. According to published reports, Bolden had 40 grandchildren, 75 great-grandchildren, 150 great-great grandchildren, 220 great-great-great grandchildren and 75 great-great-great-great grandchildren. The recently passed 116-year old gained her recognition as the world’s oldest living person following the death of Ecuador’s Maria Esther de Capovilla, who was also 116. Guinness World Records researcher Robert Young reported that 115-year old Emiliano Mercado del Toro will be the next in line to assume the honor of being the world’s oldest living person.
