Graduating Exercises
The graduating exercises of the Class of '71 of the Polytechnic Institute
was held last evening at the Academy of Music.

Presentation of certificates.
At the close of the venerable President's remarks, Dr. COCHRAN presented
certificates to the following young gentlemen amid the warmest acclamation
of the auditory:

KIDDER, Hosmer W.

Scientific
ADAMS, Jr., Henry
ANTHONY, Holland C.
BARKER, Louis H.
BORDEN, Norman E.
BROWN, Alexander E.
DICKINSON, Wallace D. (absent)

Classical
CHEESMAN, Wm. S.
HALLETT, Robert L.
LOTT, John A.
WELLS, Jr., Ransford

The ceremonial of conferring degrees was next performed.  The young
gentlemen to receive their honors were called upon the stage by their worthy
doctor.  
Frank SLOCUM was honored with the degree of bachelor of arts,
Frederick STATE with the degree of batchelor of science.  

The illustrious Chancellor in conferring the honors spoke to the distinguished 
scholars in the subsequent discourse...........
