25 October 1877 It's First Graduating Exercises - A Large Gathering at the Tompkins Avenue Congregational Church Public School No. 35, established five years ago in the outskirts of the city, last night held its first graduating exercises in the Tompkins Avenue Congregational Church, which was filled to its utmost capacity. The Graduates who received their diplomas at the hands of Superintendent FIELD were as follows: BOOMER, Bertha BROAD, Sarah N. CAIN, Minnie H. CAMBELL, Addie J. IDES, Mary S. VAN COTT, Laura A. VERSEFELT, Jennie I. WARFORD, Marie J. WARREN, Susie K. also: DONNELLY, John M. HENRY, Herbert B. The class mottos is "Esse, non Videre" (To be, not to seem). Mr. FIELD and Mr. ROWE made a few closing remarks, and soon after eleven o'clock, the exercises closed. Bouqets were liberally presented to the girls. Among those present were Messrs. CAMPBELL, ROWE, GATES, CULYER, SPRAGUE, and FIELD, of the Board of Education, Alderman EASTMAN, Supervisor NATMAN, ex-Judge PRATT, Judge M. J.
