CLOSING EXERCISES AT THE BROOKLYN MUSIC HALL
RECITATIONS, MUSIC AND BOUQUETS--DISTRIBUTION OF PRIZES.

The 8th. annual closing exercises of the pupils attending Mr.
LOCKWOOD'S academy, Nos. 139 & 141 Oxford st., took place last evening in the
Brooklyn Music Hall, Junction of Fulton st. and Flatbush ave. The parents of
the 100 children were almost all in attendence, as well as many of the former
graduates of the academy. About 50 of the scholars in the first grades
appeared in the costume of sailors. The girls looked pretty in dresses of the
mariner's cut, while the boys looked like genuine jack tars at a reception,
in white pantaloons and short jackets. The programme was faithfully Carried
out and much enthusiasm was manifested by the parents and friends of the
children.
-Miss Ella MANNING recited "The Painter of Seville" in a way which
would have done credit to a professional elocutionist.
-"The Law of Death" was so rendered by Miss Ella THROCKMORTON as to bring
tears into many eyes.
-The best recited piece of the evening was "A Leak in the Dike," by Miss Eva CREIDLER,
who was loudly applauded.
-"A Song of the Roses" by 2 little boys, Willie RICHARDS & Harry DREW,
brought forth a shower of bouquets from persons in the auditorium.
-Miss Lillie TATUM in the song "Kathleen Mavoureen," was deservedly encored.
