MAYFLOWER SUNDAY-SCHOOL
The Mayflower Sunday-school had their Christmas entertainment last
evening.  The programme consisted of nursery rhymes illustrated by song
and tableaux and visit of Santa Claus.  The rhymes were:  
Merry Christmas time, 
Sing a Song of Sixpence, 
Georgie Porgie, 
Paper of Pins, 
Mary Had a Little Lamb, 
Three Jolly Sailors, 
Little Doggy Mistress Mary, 
Mulberry Bush,
Twinkle Twinkle,
Jack and Jill, 
King of France, 
Beep-a-Bo, 
Little Tommy Tucker, 
Little Bo-Peep, 
Merry Bells. 
On Sunday there will be special services with Christmas anthems and carols.

PUBLIC SCHOOL NO. 5
Christmas exercises were held this morning at ten o'clock in the primary
department of Public School No. 5, corner of Duffield and Johnson streets,
under the direction of Miss J. W. HORTON, Principal.   The programme
included singing by the school, recitations and calisthenic exercises.
The children acquitted themselves of the parts to which they were assigned
most creditably and gave evidence of careful training in music and in
elementary elocution.  The following pupils gave recitations:

Warren street near Smith.

The solos, piano duets, singing by the school and the recitations, were of
a high average.  An address was delivered by Mayor LOW.  The members of
the Board of Education present were Messrs.BEARD, HENDRIX and
ROBINSON.  Mr. A. E. IVES, the Principal of this school, is a practical
teacher, and the members of the Local Committee say that the scholars
make rapid progress.

Intermediate Department of No. 6, 
of which Miss Huldah B. TUTHILL is Principal.

PUBLIC SCHOOL NO. 9
The tenth annual Christmas reception of Public School No. 9 took place
yesterday morning.  The school rooms were tastily decorated with evergreens
and bunting.  The exercises comprised chorus singing, recitations, readings,
instrumental music and the presentation of the 
Renie Fund Medal of the "Loving Heart" to Miss Katy BARHYDT.

On Lafayette avenue, near Throop, closing Christmas exercises were held
this morning under the direction of Mr. TUTHILL, the Principal, and the
following programme was successfully rendered:
