39th Commencement Exercises, held at the Brooklyn Academy of Music.
St. James' is the oldest Catholic educational institution in the city of 
Brooklyn and was founded in 1825.
It is often referred to as -The Brothers' School-.
The school has three departments-
Commerical, grammar and primary.

The Graduates are :

First Prize-
a gold medal, donated; the Rev. Bishop Loughlin; awarded to John Thomas O'NEIL, 
for excellence in Deportment, Christian doctrine, bookkeeping,  
penmanship, arithmatic, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, mensuration, 
composition, history, English literature, natural philosophy, 
elocution, Latin and shorthand.

Second prize- 
a gold medal; donor, Hugh McLaughlin;awarded to William Alphonsus FERGUSON;
for excellance in deportment, Christian doctrine, mathmatics,  
natural philosophy, English literature,  composition,  
bookkeeping , Latin, shorthand, typewriting, elocution and penmanship.

Third prize- 
a gold medal; donor, the Rev.Father Woods, rector St. James' Cathedral;
awarded to William John CUNNINGHAM;
for excellance in deportment, Christian doctrine, mathmatics, 
English literature, bookkeeping, penmanship, history, grammar, 
elocution, natural philosophy, shorthand, typewriting and Latin.

Fourth prize- 
a gold medal; donor, Commissioner Bell; awarded to James Aloysius BRADLEY;
for excellance in deportment, Christian doctrine, mathmatics, 
English literature, history, natural philosophy, bookkeeping, 
shorthand, typewriting and elocution.

Fifth prize- 
a gold medal; donor, the Rev. Father Mitchell: awarded to Daniel Patrick O'SHEA:
for excellance in deportment, Christian doctrine, mathmatics, 
English literature, composition, bookkeeping, history, 
shorthand and typewriting.

Sixth prize- 
a gold medal; donor; the Rev. Father Mealia; 
awarded to Thomas Augusttine 0'CONNOR:for excellance in deportment, 
Christian doctrine, elocution, penmanship, bookkeeping, composition, 
natural philosophy, shorthand, history, parliamentary law, 
mathmathics, grammar and drawing.

Also a gold medal; donor; Prof. Van Ghele;
awarded to Master John A. RYAN for proficiency in music.

Silver medal; donor; Rev. Brother Tat?an;
awarded to William M. BYRNES for next in merit in music.
