AMHERST ALUMNI
Brooklyn Daily Standard Union 10 January 1894 THE FIRST MEETING FOR '94 OF THE 'YOUNG' ASSOCIATION. The first meeting for the current season of the Young Alumni Association of Amherst College of New York vicinity took place last evening at the St. Denis Hotel, Broadway and Eleventh Street, New York. Much interest attached to the occasion in consequence of the radical new departure by which all formal speeches and invited guests were to be omitted and also in view of the fact that the regular seniors assocation of the Alumni has, this year given up its usual annual dinner. The attendance, last evening was exceptionally large rarely having been exceeded in the annals of Amherst gatherings and the results of the evening were such as to commend the judgement of the managers. Messrs. BROOKS and DENTON, the famous banjo peformers, assisted by the only Marshall P. WILDER, rendered, in the first part of the evening, a programme of eight numbers, of selections from MOSKOWSKI, STRAUSS, SILBERGER and SOUSA and other popular composers: while Mr. WILDER kept up his end with his usual face, pantomine, comic opera and by play. After the exclusively literary part of the programme, an elaborate supper was served and the remainder of the evening spent informally and socially, in reviving college reminiscences, telling college tales, and renewing old acquaintances. The Young Alumni were present in force, nearly every class from that of 1849, represented by Vice-President John H. WASHBURN, of the Home Insurance Company, of New York, down to that of 1893, contributing a delegation. Among those present from Brooklyn were : Hon. William W. GOODRICH, Rev. William D. PERRY, Charles M. PRATT, Frederick B. PRATT, Herbert L. BRIDGMAN, Dr. Arthur R. PAINE, Winston H. HAGAN, Andrew P. ALVORD, E.E. JACKSON, Jr., Edward H. FALLOWS, Frank L. GREEN, Henry W. GOODRICH. For the second meeting of the association, to be held several weeks hence, a dinner is contemplated, which will bring to the front some of the more recent accessions from the undergraduates, and introduce to the public after dinner speakers of much promise. The president of the Young Alumni Association is W. S. ROSSITER, of '84. Transcribed by Nina CravenRETURN to 1890 GRADUATE MAIN RETURN to GRADUATE MAIN RETURN to BROOKLYN MAIN
