Jamaica, L.I. - June 29 - The Jamaica High School Assembly Hall was packed
to the doors by friends of the class of '00 at the third annual commencement
of the school last evening. The class, eleven in number, were seated upon
the platform, and Professor C.J. JENNINGS presided. The room was bedecked
with potted and cut flowers and the national colors. The programme was as
follows:
Hymn, "March of Our Nation," by the High School Glee Club;
prayer by the Rev. Horatio O. LADD of Grace Church, Jamaica;
salutatory, "For Value Received, We Promise to Pray," Leonard R. GRACY;
recitation, "The Trail of the Sand Hill Stag," Clara C. FIECKEN;
music, "The Heaven and Earth Display," "The English Should Rule South Africa," Garrett M. VAN SICKLEN;
music, "Over the Dancing Sea," "Womanliness of Shakespeare's Women," Bessie OSBORN;
valedictory, "Beyond the Sea Lies India," Alice O. DURLAND;
music, "Tis May Day Morn;"
presentation of diplomas, the Rev. J. Howard HOBBS of the Presbyterian Church of Jamaica;
music, "Now, Good Evening, Good Night."
