AT ST. JOHN'S COLLEGE.

The thirty-fifth annual Commencement exercises of 
St. John's College were held last evening in the Columbia Theatre.

Degrees and rnedals were awarded to
the following students :

		      in first  year: Terrence C. Sharkey
Gold medal for mental philosophy: Alfred J. Jollow

Purse of $20 in gold given by James C. Kennedy. M.D., for best work
in analytical chemistry, awarded to Alfred J. Jollow.

Leland gold medal for best essay by member of senior class,
awarded to Hector M. Curren.
Next in merit: Francis T. Scullin

Medal  for Christian doctrine, awarded to Adolph J. Wunner
given by the Rt. Rev. Charles E. McDonnell., D.D.  

Third and fourth year gold medals for high standing- 
In .Christian doctrine, awarded to Agustine A. Wetzel.
First and second years, to Edward Z. Vermylen.

The Figueira Gold Medal for oratory was awarded to:
Leo P. Callan, whose oration on Daniel O'Connell, 
June 9, in the College Hall, won him the coveted prize.  

The  Alumni  Gold  Medal, 
given by the Alumni Association for the best English oration, was awarded to : 
W. Eugene Mahoney.  

Purse of ten dollars in gold for elocution, and one of five dollars in gold, 
first and second prizes, were awarded to:
Edward J. Higgins and Arthur P. Leonard.

At the close of the awards Assistant Corporation Counsel, 
Patrick E. Callahan, who is a member of the Class of 1881, 
delivered an earnest address to the graduating students.  
The exercises were closed by the several classes of 
"St. John's present joining in the college yell of 
"St. John's, rah,rah 
St. John's rah, rah! hoora, hoora!
maroon and white! dynamite! boom!"
