The girls were in the service of the Red Cross, Miss DUNN said, trying to
aid their country, and the boys were fighting in the trenches in France, and
on the warships at sea.  There was no sacrifice, she said, that the students
of Bushwick High School was not willing to make for the benefit of their
country.

Michael I. RECHLER was the winner of a scholarship in arts and sciences at
the New York University.
  
The Leo LEBOWICH Memorial Medals for the best short stories were presented by 
Dr. Elias LIEBERMAN.  
First prize was won by Miss Ida KOPMAN, for a story entitled "Lady Wandarars Roses," 
Second prize went to Miss E. Lillian JACKSON for her story of "The Psychology of
Defeat."  
Honorable mention was given to Edward TOMARZEWSKI for history
"Hobbies" 
Maurice BOOKBINDER for "The Grapes of Wrath."............

The industrial Art Scholarship went to Albert LANG, and he will get a two
year course in Pratt Institute in the art school.  

George Arthur WILSON presented the Rafael JOSEFFY Memorial Medal for excellence 
in piano playing to Miss Harriet A. SODEN, and complimented her highly on her work.  

Miss Josephine BEIDERHASE, assistant director of physical training presented the
award for loyalty , officiency, and service to Miss Dorothy ZIRBES.
