Manual Commencement

"Be good" was the concise message of Supreme Court Justice John MACCRATE to 
298 boys and girls of Manual Training High School who received their diplomas 
at the graduation exercises held last night in the auditorium, Seventh avenue 
and Fifth street.

"As the years pass on - from today perhaps more crowded years - bear in mind 
the often repeated admonition of your mother as you left for school and 
returned each day," Judge MACCRATE said.

Judge MACCRATE'S address was preceded by the presentation of diplomas by Dr. 
Frederick W. OSWALD, assistant principal of the school.  The young men and 
young women, dressed in their graduation apparel, marched into the large 
auditorium, to the strains of "Aux Flambeaux," played by the school orchestra 
directed by Charles S. YERBURY. 

The address of welcome was delivered by Julia A. SORMANI, honorary president 
of the graduating class.  This was followed by the presentation of the 
numerous awards and medals by Dr. Horace Mann SYNDER, the principal.

Judge MACCRATE in his address to the graduates stressed their obligation to 
their parents, their teachers and to the community.  Toleration, he 
maintained, is one of the most essential principles of human progress.
