BORO WINS FOUR OF FIVE POSTER PRIZE AWARDS
Brooklyn Standard Union 27 March 193 High School Pupils Lead Entire City in Annual CONTEST Four out of five awards in the tenth annual poster contest by students in the schools of Greater New York were awarded to Brooklyn pupils, it was learned today when the judges made their announcement. This year's contest was conducted by the Humane Education Department of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and was sponsored by the Board of Education. The winners were: Eunice HENRIQUES, of 1731 West Tenth street, a pupil of the Washing Irving High School, first prize $25; Albert TARTER, of 1938 East Eighteenth street, a pupil of James Madison High School, second prize of $15; Jack ROSEN, of 15 Montgomery street, Manhattan, a pupil of Textile High School, first honorable mention; William GROMAN, of 1770 East Seventeenth street, a pupil of James Madison High School, second honorable mention; Abner SUNDELL, of 2440 Eighty-third street, a pupil of New Utrecht High School, Third honorable mention. Silver and bronze medals to a large number of Brooklyn pupils also were awarded by the judges. The awards will be made by the Humane Education Department, April 18, at exercises to be held in the auditorium of Washington Irving high School. The judges of the contest were Dr. Harold CAMPBELL, associate superintendent in charge of high schools; Mrs. Alfred CASPARY, chairman of the Human Education Committee for the New York Women's League for Animals; Morgan DENNIS, well known for his dog etchings; Pierce JOHNSON, art director of the Ralph H. JONES Company, and Miss Frances E. CLARKE, education director for the A. S. P. C. A. A selection of the high school posters will be exhibited in Education Hall and the American Museum of Natural History, from May 18 to May 30. They will then be entered in the national poster contest conducted by the American Humane Association in Albany. The contest started in November and a separate contest was held in each competing high school. From the designs submitted in each high school, a group of judges selected five designs....
