A MECHANIC'S CODE
The greatest differences in mechanics lie in the degree of thoroughness with
which they do their work, and the logic they use in finding the underlying
causes behind the failures they encounter.

The customer's steady trade is often won,--or lost--in the first few minutes
of their first visit.

The cleanliness of your shop reflects the type of service you render. Poor
work performed gratis is not good service and results in ingratitude.

Courtesy at all times brings in large dividends.

The products you install reflect, either favorably or the opposite on your
reputation.
Courtesy is important with all customers: but with women it is essential.

It is easier to lose a steady customer than to make one.

Handling a customer's complaint properly is one of the best ways to keep
him satisfied.

It is personality, plus skill and knowledge, that makes a good mechanic.

Good intentions alone, while admirable, cannot take the place of a job well
done.

See that your customers have a real reason for coming back to you for all
repairs.

Carefulness and thoroughness are the watchwords: precision is the challenge:
and cleanliness is the bill of health: all put together, they spell success.

+City championship game.

For the eight consecutive season, Automotive's quintet captured the Brooklyn
and Queens vocational high schools basketball tournament and for the second
year in a row our cagers met defeat in the city championship game at Madison
Square Garden.

Our courment won sixteen games in a row during the course of the season
before being stopped by Samuel Gompers Vocational HS, before a crowd of over
13, 000 spectators by a score of 35 to 28 at Madison Square Garden.

Among the most notable of our clubs wins was the victory over an excellent
Manual Training team at Manual's court to open the season. Then came
triumphs over the Alumni before a packed house in our gym: a trip to Staten
Island which resulted in the conquest of Curtis HS, academic high school
titleholders of the Island due to Manny Schiler hitting the cords for 12
points in the second half. After defeating Woodrow Wilson and Metal Trades
in league contest, we handed McKee Vocational a 29 to 23 beating at the
Garden. Queens Vocational was next on the list of conquests and then back to
madison Square Garden to drop East New York to the tune of 54 to 30. The
first half of the schedule saw our cagers win a thriller from Brooklyn
Specialty in the last few seconds of play at the Brooklyn College of
Pharmacy due to Nat Miller coming through with two free throws to clinch the
contest.

The second half of the the schedule saw us again defeat Curtis HS, this time
at our court 39 to 32 and Abraham Lincoln HS was taken into camp 57 to 30.
We sewed up the Brooklyn and Queens title with a 51 to 41 triumph over
Brooklyn Specialty on our court. Other wins were scored over East NY, Metal
trades, Woodrow Wilson and Queens Vocational.

The championship game at the Garden with Gompers Vocational saw the Bronx
Club take a lead of 10 to 9 at the end of the first quarter, increase the
advantage to 20 to 17 at half time and put the crusher on our hopes for the
city honors in the third period by outscoring our team 9 to 5 to run the
third period count to 20 to 22. We held our opponents even in the last
period 6 to 6 but the damage had been done and the title went to coach Bill
Hirzler's quintet.

The brunt of the work in the first half of the season fell to the lot of
Captain Schwartz, Manny Schiller, Nat Miller, Lefty Gordon and Red Baktis.
With Schollers' graduation in January, Bill Henry, who became eligible to
represent the blue and gold stepped in and played a stellar game. Vinny
Reig, Nick Torowicz, George Greco, Harry Frogan, DAve Munich, George Nieves,
and Dolph Latimore also did their share in running up sixteen consecutive
wins. The prospects for next season are good as the only men lost from the
squad are Schwartz and Reig.

JUNIOR VARSITY BASKETBALL TEAM
CAPTAIN: Anthony Alongi COACH: James S. Tedford
Alongi Barrett Scher
Brodowski Ripa D'Agostino
Mazzochi Ostrowski Mc Loughlin
Donk Martello Auciella
Cannizzaro Dremucka Massef

Our Junior Varsity basketball team enjoyed a fairly suscessful season
registering four wins agains three losses.

On the winning side of the ledger were two victories over our Freshman
quinet and two over Midwood High School's varsity, one on our court by a
score of 32 to 19 and theother on Midwood's floor in an overtime game.

On the losing side were games dropped to the following junior varsity teams,
namely, Newton, Franklin K. Lane and Abraham Lincoln.

As the najority of the members of the Jayvee are first and second termers
they should prove to be very valuable in the near future when they have had
a little more seasoning.

CROSS COUNTRY TEAM
CAPTAIN: Harold Studer MANAGAER: Charles Jurewicz COACH: Mr. Marcus

Benard Schulman Wallace Gunoti Robert Wallace
Bernard Hirsch Thomas Turner Manuel Skillings
Mario Gianturco Joe DiBenardo Perry Intermor

The Brooklyn Automotive Hill and Dalers competed in a stiff cross country
schedule which was successful in preparing them for the indoor and outdoor
track seasons.

The schedule this year included the three P.S.A.L., practice runs, dual
meets with Bronx Vocational and Samuel gompers, the New York University and
Manhattan College Cross Country Meets and the P.S.A.L. Championships.

The outstanding runners were: Harold Studer, Mario Gianturco, Charles
Jurewicz, Manuel Skillings and Bernard Schulman.

VARSITY SOFTBALL TEAM
COACH: Mr. Roman
During the fall of the 1941, the softball team of Brooklyn Automotive won
the City Vocational Title by defeating all the teams in the Brooklyn-Queens
League twice each and then trimming Samuel Gompers, winners in the
Bronx-Manhattan League.

Outstanding over the season were the pitching of "Jaber," Jaworskik and the
consistent, timely hitting of "Johnny Starozyk, our slender shortstop.
Jaworki limited his opponents to an average of three hits and two runs per game.

Memers of the team: John Starozyk, Ben Schwartz, Joe Manzi, Red Baktis,
Manny Schiller, Benny Fescine, Aaron Gordon, Ralph Hess, Sylvio Maringola,
Jabber Jaworski, Carmine Monteforte, Carl Cacciatorre, Nick Torowitz, Bruce
Ferguson, and Don Petrere.

VARSITY SWIMMING TEAM
CAPTAIN: Ray Ciani COACH: Mr. Jaffe
The swimming team, as in the past, continued its excellent record by
retaining the Brooklyn and Queens Dual championship and the city vocational
championship. With many of its former stars lost by graduation last term.
Mr. Jaffe, did an excellent job in preparing the boys for the stiff
opposition they encountered throughout the season. The team paced by
Captain Ray Ciani, scored the highest number of points ever scored in one
season to win the Individual Swimming Championships.
There are also pictures above these:

TRACK TEAM
CAPTAIN: Charles Jurewicz COACH: Mr. Lillienstein
The track team got off to a poor start during the indoor season but received
valuable experience that enabled the automotive flyers to start a very
serious campaign in the outdoor season.

During the term, the track team held dual meets with East New York
Vocational, Lincoln High School, Brooklyn Technical HS, Manhattan Aviation,
Bronx Vocational HS and Long Island City HS. The team also took part in our
annual Track and Field meet.

Although many point scorers will be lost by graduation, ther ewill be a
nucleus of runners to carry on next term.

HANDBALL TEAM
COACH: Mr. Morris Epner
The handball team initiated its season on April 23, 1042 at Lafayette High
School by defeating its hosts, 3 matches to 2.
Captain Dave Munick and J. jScaralino defeated their opponents, Greeberg and
Michaelman decisively. The score was 21-8.

Vinnie Santonastaso defeated Kitt 21-13, and Wnorowski defeated Feder 21-9.
The other members who show ecellent promise are: Lombardo, Herbstman, Levey,
kaminski, Bosello, Silver.

SOCCER TEAM
CAPTAIN: William pomeroy COACH: Mr. Sharkey
With its first season in competition, the soccer team played one of the
toughest schedules possible and did remarkably well. Playing such schools
as Grover Cleveland, Boys High, Eastern Districk, Alexander Hamilton, Queens
Vocational, and the City Champions Lafayette would be enough to trample any
soccer team without experience, but with the fine coaching of Mr. Sharkey,
the team finished a better than average season. With another year of
experience, hopes for a championship next year are very bright.

CHEER LEADERS
COACH: Mr. Shapiro
This year the cheer leading squad established a new high for the spirit,
color, and effectivness. It was composed of eight boys and seven girls from
the Brooklyn High School of Homemaking. This colorful group played an
important part in cheering our basketball team on to its
long string of victories. Congratulations to the effort and spirit of its
members: Ralph Sabel, Leo Brown, Thomas Suarez, Robert Kreiling, and James
Sorrentino.

MATH CLUB
FACULTY ADVISOR: Mr. Dunetz
Last fall the Methematics Club was reorganized for those boys interested in
mathematics as a hobby or amusement. The topics taken up during the year
included the study of the slide rule, algebra, logarithms, mathematical
puzzles and surveying. In the future it is expected that the work will be
expanded to include the application of mathematics work. The boys, who meet
Tuesdays in Room 114, are among the best math students in the school.

RADIO CLUB
FACULTY ADVISOR: Mr. Scanlon
The Radio Club was organized to teach boys who are interestedin radio, the
fundamental principles of that subject. Because it is difficult to
understand radio without knowledge of Science and Mathematics, only students
with the highest ratings in these subjects were accepted. The course began
with Mr. Scanlon teaching the boys the Radio Spectrum, The Ether Spectrum,
The Electron Theory, Radio Matematics, and many other interesting phases of
Radio including the operation of the Cathode Ray Tube.
During the centennial celebration, the radio wave was demonstrated on the
Cathode Ray Oscilloscope and explained to many of interested visitors by
Benard Schulman.
Also demonstrated was the use of the electric eye on a garage by Harold
Parchment. All credit of the club work goes to Mr. Scanlon who has given
his time willingly so that the boys of the club could better prepare
themselves for their future occupations.

STUDENT COUNCIL
FACULTY ADVISOR: Mr. Kaiser
During the past school year the Student Council, composed of class
presidents, lived up to its reputation of helping charitable organizations
and promoting good interests. The Council helped in the sales of basketball
tickets, booster buttons for our track meet, and the drive for 100% red
cross membership.
Meeting were held in the Fall term to discuss Scholarship Service Awards.
It was decided that the awards would be given to those students who secured
over an 80% average in some sort in either athletics or activities. Other
important discussions were the proposal of a Senior Day, and the formation
of a Defense Stamp Committee.
The officers of the Student Council are President John Micka,
Vice-President, Abraham Schwartz, and Secretary-Treasurer Charles Jurewicz.

DRUM & BUGLE CORPS
With school spirit at its peak this term, Mr. Kelly and his Drum Corps must
be given credit for being parlty responsible for it. Not only did they show
this spirit by plaing at all the home basketball games but also by leading
several auditorium Pep Rallies. At the field day excercises, held May 12,
1942, the corps gave a fine performance. The greatest accomplishment
achieved by the corps this term was to win a trophy for being the best in
its respective class in a competition held by the Madison Square Boys Club.
As in the past, the Drum Corps will retire the colors at the commencerment
excercises.

Membershiop of the Corps: Drum Major: S. Pisano, Drummers: W. Hatton, M.
Jamarco, L.Brill, J. Olson, P. Fiori, E. Lindenbaum, J. Gandolfo, L.
Creditor, Buglers: T. Paclverz, J. Pzazzi, B. Bencivgna, S. Rothstein, E.

CAMERA CLUB
FACULTY ADVISORS:
Messrs. Kasten, Divone, Leavitt and Longorbardi
Pres: L. Greenbert, V.Pres: V. Tauri, Sec. S. Rigano
The Camera Club under the able supervision of Messrs, Kasten, Divone,
Leavitt, and Longobardi had become one of the established and outstanding
clubs of this school. Its constantly growing membership has made it
necessary to meet three days per week. At these get togethers the amateur
candid camera bugs investigate the elementary phases of photographic
technique.

SOCIAL SCIENCE CLUB
FACULTY: Mr. Kurtz and Mr. Weintraub
Pres: M. Matersa Vice Pres: V Ray Secretary: S. Underhill
The members of this club have grouped together to acquaint themselves with
the social and economic forces of today and also to learn to discuss
intelligently and ably the public problems of our country. The club
prepared and presented in the auditorium a Bill of Rights program. This
program, in the manner of a forum, outlined the origin and country were
compared to those denied in dictatorial countries. Our way of life was
warmly defended by the members in the extemporaneous discussion that
followed.
The club is now preparing for a debate with the Senate Debating Team which
is undefeated thus far.

HILLBILLY GROUP
FACULTY: MR. Chancer
The newly organized Hillbilly Group was well received by the students of the
school when they first performed before a crowded assembly a little after
Easter. Having been received so well on their first appearance, they
immediately got into the swing of the mountain style music and performed
before almost a housand guests during the Centennial celebration. A round
of applause goes to Mr. Chancer and his Hillbilly Group for their excellent
work done this past term. The group is now working in collaboration with
the Music Drama group for the coming commencement exercises.

THE PAN AMERICAN CLUB
FACULTY: Messrs, Kaiser and Pincus
Pres: Vincnet Ray, Vice Pres: Arthur Giglio Sec? Allen Hemmerle
The Pan American Club was organized with the purpose of developing a good
understanding between the pupils in our school and those of the Pan American
Countries. The club has been active throughout the year in learning the
culture and history of Latin American and in keeping abreast of the
important events concerning our neighbors south of the border.

FOURTH ANNUAL AUTOMOTIVE TRACK AND FIELD MEET
Automotive's Fourth Annual Track and Field Meet bigger and better every
year, attracted an entry of over 750 athletes from 39 vocational, academic,
parochial and prep schools.
Held at McCArren Park on Tuesday afternoon, May 12th, outstanding trackmen
from points as far distant as BElmar, NJ, Staten Island and Oakdale competed
against the cream of the Metropolitan crop.
Coach George Eastment's Bishop Loughlin Memorial HS champions took home the
point trophy with a total of 23 points in the seven open events on the card.
Babe Scheuer's Bronx Vocational team ran up 391/2 points to beat its
nearest competitor, Manhattan Aviation, by 4 1/2 points in the nine events
closed to vocational schools to win the vocational trophy.
The George F. Pigott, Jr., trophy for the most meritorious performance went
to the smooth striding Rudy Simms, of DeWitt Clinton HS, who turned in a
1:59,8 half mile in nosing out Bob Collins of Boys High. Banners were also
awarded to V-29 and T-3 for winning the 880 and 440 interclass relays closed
to students of Automotive.
The individual winners in the vocational events were 100 yard dash, Joe
Cianciabella, Automotive:220, Escoffrey, Bronx; 440, Burns, Central Needle;
880, Olen,Aviation; mile, Davidson, jBronx; 880 relay, Aviation, broad jump,
Remini, Aviation; hight jump, O'Donnell, East New York; 12lb shot put,
Wilman, Bronx, Four meet records were set as Olen did 2:07 for the half
mile, Wilman hurled the shot 52"3", O'Donnell cleared the high jump bar at
5'10" and Remini leaped 20'4" in broad jump.
In the open events, in addition to Simms', sterling performance in the 880
yard run, the following excellent performances were recorded 100 yard dash,
winner Justin Wenger, New Utrecht, in 10:2; Culdora of New Ytrecht took the
220 freshman event in 23:8, Vinny Mannix of Loughlin was returned the winner
in the 220 open in 23:2, Loughlin was also the winner in the 440 and mile
run as Fuerst and Larry Schmidt hit the tape in front in 51 seconds and
4:31.9 respectively. Coach Charley Carpenter's national interscholastic
indoor mile relay championship quartet of Dick Flick, John Foggan, Phil
Palese and Bob Crawford ripped off a 3:28 mile to lead St. Augustine,
Catholic High School titleholders to the tape in a stirring battle in this
event.
In addition to Joe Cianciabella, Charley Jurewicz took a fourth in the 440.
Bill Brockenborough a fifth in the high jump and Pelikow a fifth in the shot
put for Automotive.

ASSEMBLY PROGRAMS
The number of assembly programs held during this term was reduced, but each
program was scheduled for four showings, In this way the entire student body
was able to witness each of the programs, each student being present at the
exercises once every two weeks.

Special assemblies were organized for students of the upper grades. Two such
programs delt with (1) History of New York and (2) Placement problems for
prospective graduates. Slides and an accompanying talk were used for the
history of New York Program, whereas speakers from the automotive industry
together with our placement director, Mr. Anson, presented the second program.

For the purpose of enering the students into the auditorium more
efficiently, an assembly squad of students was organized by Dr. Cunningham.
This group made preparations for each program, such as providing light, air,
and material, besides directing the actual entrance and seating of all
students. The squad will receive appropriate awards and credit for school service.

Our Programs gave more opportunity than ever before for students to
participate. Such topics as the Bill of Rights, Hobbies, Community Singing,
a one act play, a declamation contest, and an old fashioned spelling bee
attracted large numbers of students to volunteer as contestants. In all
cases where students were actively engaged in the exercises, interest of the
augience was exceptionally high.

On two occasions films were shown to the entire student body during the
course of one day by means of special programming of all classes, both shop
and academic. One film was purely recretional, dealing with the national
pastime, the second had civic and educational value, dealing as it did with
civilian defense.

Instrumental in the success of our assembly programs were those interested
teachers who gave their time to develop worthwhile presentations. Messrs,
Kurtz, Frey, Conway, Wolter, Silver, Chancer, Tarakajian, Glass, Shapiro,
Peterson, Strickler, Anson and Cherkis all deserve mention for excellent
results. Oc special significance was the program prepared for the
Centennial for which Messrs, Chancer, Cherkis and Silver merit special commendation.

Mr. O'Connor lent his presence to most of the assembly programs and
conducted the exercises effectively, whilst Mr. Tedford managed the
arrangement of classes for each period.

We are deeply indebted to the following for success of those programs which
involved outside assistance.

The Beech nut Packing Co.
Mr. Wm. Stadler E. A. Wildermuth
Mr. Richard Durham Durham Company
Messrs,Stone and Knowles Manufacturers Trust Co.

This is a poem written by Joe Valancy to our men who were fighting during WW
2. My Father being one of them.

OVER THE TOP
BY:Joe Valancy

Over the top and into the battle
Midst cannon roar, and machine gun rattle,
The screeching shells as they fall near
The cowardly men as they shrink in fear.

Charging over the dead and dying.
To keep your flag forever flying.
Hearing the yells of anguished woe
Jabbing your bayonet in the nearest foe,

Burying your head in the bloody mire
As the enemy shells you with their fire:
rushing onward--steadily ahead,
Over that field of dying and dead.

Crawling forward on hands and knees,
Hiding behind some shattered trees.
Advancing steadily without a stop
Onward you go---over the top.

Thru that blasted no-man's land,
Where death is waiting with open hand.
Dead men lie upon the ground.
Who never again shall march around.

But still you go--on ahead
Praying that you don't stop lead..
Suddenly, a flash that blinds your eye
Rips at you out of the sky.

And golden silence fills the air
As if you had passed over there,
And out of this living hell--
Peace is sounded and all's well.

To all who served in all our wars, our true hero's.
