NEWTOWN HIGH SCHOOL 1897

Elmhurst Queens NEW YORK This 1909 photo postcard shows Newtown High School, one of the first constructed in Queens County. Opened in 1897, additional large wings were quickly added to handle the students who thronged to this location, which was known as Newtown until the early 1900's. Today, this is just about the last vestige of the Newtown name in Elmhurst. The location is 90th St. between 48th and 50th Avenues.
