NINTH REGIMENT OF INFANTRY

Reorganizing

May 29, 1863, Maj. E Jardine received authority to reorganize the 9th 
Infantry, mustered out May 20, 1863, by reason of expiration of its term of 
service for a three year service. The men enlisted served New York City 
during the Draft Riots in July, 1863, Under Major Jardine, who was wounded, 
and in consequence unable to effect the reorganization.  October 14, 1863, 
the men so far enlisted were transferred to the 17th Veteran Infantry, and 
reorganization discontinued. 
To assist in the reorganization the fowlling were appointed but not 
commissioned by the Govenor:

COLONEL
Edward J. Jardine, late Major 9th Infantry (1st); May 29, 1863; out October 
14, 1863; wounded in the Draft Riots in New York City in July 1863; see 17th 
Veteran Infantry.

LIEUTENANT-COLONEL
William G. Barnett,late Captain, 9th Infantry (1st); May 29, 1863; out 
October 14, 1863; see 17th Veteran Infantry.

MAJOR
James R. Whitting, Jr. Late Captain, 9th Infantry (1st) May 29, 1863; out, 
October 14, 1863.

ADJUTANT
