left of the estate is to go to his son Conrad, who, it is stated by the
will, has supported his father and mother for some time past. The other
children of the executor, the testator claims, have plenty of money of their
own. It is also the desire of the testator that his widow shall save as

mortgage the real estate should she need the same for her livelihood.

and the income therefrom is to go towards the support and education of his
grandchildren, Willis, John, Frank and Joseph BARBER, the children of Isaac
BARBER. If this part of the estate is not sufficient enough should be taken
or invested to properly educate and support these children. As the children
become of age he or she is to be given his or her share of the amount so set
aside or one-quarter of the amount invested. His children, Ann Jane
TIERNEY, Hannah M. EDWARDS, John J. BARBER, Elizabeth A. DAWLEY and Willard

Mrs. Millie E., wife of Mr. John MESSENGER, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. John
MESSENGER, of Astoria, died at Astoria on Friday last in the twenty-eighth
year of her age. The deceased lady, with her husband, had been living in
Fitchburg, Mass., where Mr. MESSENGER occupied a prominent position in the
staff of professional educators, attached to the high school of that city.
He had recently secured a position in the Training School at Jamaica, and is
to commence his duties there on April 1st.
His wife was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George H. SMITH, of Steinway, and
had been married about three years. She was taken ill shortly before
commencing to make arrangements to leave Fitchburg, and was at once brought
back by her devoted husband to her old homes in hopes that the change might
aid her recovery.
She lived but a few days, however, and passed away amidst the scenes of her
childhood, and her happy girlhood, mourned by her grief stricken husband and
everyone who knew her.
Funeral services were held at the residence of the parents of the deceased
lady, 240 Purdy street, Steinway, on Sunday afternoon, and the solemn but
beautiful ceremonies were attended by throngs of people from Astoria and
Steinway. There was a large number of floral tributes of affection from
friends and relatives. The services were conducted by the Rev. Mr. WEBB,
rector of the Church of the Redeemer, and the Rev. Mr. COLLINS, pastor of
the Steinway Reformed Church. A quartet sang "Lead Kindly Light," "Now the
Day is Over" and other hymns during the ceremonies with exquisite pathos.
The interment took place in the family plot of the parents of the deceased
at St. Michael's Cemetery on Monday afternoon, and was largely attended.
Commitment services were conducted by the Rev. Mr. WEBB and the Rev. Mr.COLLINS.
