BILL-Charles E. In Brooklyn, Jan.1, 1888, in his 85th year.
Services from Grace Church, Brooklyn Heights.
At a meeting of the Directors of the Union Ferry Company of
Brooklyn, on the 2d of Jan., the death of Mr. Charles E.Bill
was announced, where upon it was ordered that the flag of
the ferry office be lowered to half mast and on the day of
his funeral the flags at the ferry landings and on the boats
be hung at half mast. A committee was appointed to draft r
esolutions expressive of the regard and esteem felt by
Directors for Mr. Bill, who has been a member of
the board for thirty six years and for many years it's
Vice President and Auditor. The committee were directed
to present a copy of those resolutions to the family of
Mr. Bill and to give them to the press for publication.
The committee reported as follows;
Resolved, That we mourn the loss of Mr. Charles E. Bill,
who was our associate and friend for many years and a
regular attendant at out monthly meetings, at which
he had endeavered himself to us by his uniform
curtesy and kindly manners, while he had also aided and
influenced our deliberations by his remarkable business
knowledge and good judgement.
Resolved, That as Mr. Bill's family in accordance with his s
implicity of his taste desire that no formal attendance be
made by companies at his funeral, the
Directors will attend simply as individuals and friends.

BILL, Charles E. (Jan. 13th 1888 Paper)

The following minute was prepared by a committee appointed
for the purpose at a meeting of the vestry of Grace Church,
Brooklyn Heights, held on the 4th day of January, and was
directed to be spread upon the records of the parish and
copies thereof transmitted to the family of the deceased
and to the press for publication :Among the various bodies
which mourn the death of Mr. Charles E. BILL none does so
with more sincerity or more reson than Grace Church, Brooklyn
Heights, of which he was the junior warden and treasurer.
The former office he had filled continuously since 1864
and the latter since 1865, besides having been a vestryman
for years prior to becoming warden.
Among our oldest, most influental and sagacious members,
he not only won our respect by his marked ability and long
continued faithful service but engaged our affections by his
kindness and sympathic charity.
To have his venerable form disappear from our midst is to
have a parish landmark removed-one which we have affectionately
observed in its accustomed place for so long a time that it
is difficult to realize that it is indeed gone. We have
left to ?rs the good example of an active, honest and
truly Christan life.
J.A. Hewlett Clerk of the Vestry
