JOHNSON - Private Charles A. JOHNSTON, of 129 Oak st., Brooklyn, died at
Camp Johnson, Fla., on Oct. 9, in his 24th year.  Funeral from his late

one sister, Agnes, and one brother, William, who is in a base hospital in

Dr. I. Jacques GROSSMAN, who died on Sunday after a short illness of
pneumonia at his home, 22 Prospect Park Southwest, was born in Manhattan
twenty-seven years ago and had been a resident of Brooklyn for nine years.
He was a graduate of New York University and was house physician of the
Brooklyn Jewish Hospital and a member of the Kings County Medical Society.
He is survived by his mother, Annie; six brothers, Julius, Frank, Peter,
Morgan, Joseph and Emmanuel, and three sisters, Mrs. G. De ARIES, Mrs.
Gerson MICHAELSON and Mrs. Mat GROSSMAN.  The funeral will be held from his
late home, with interment at Union Fields Cemetery.

John F. BECK died last Saturday in his eighteenth year at his home, 19
Wilton avenue, Glendale.  He was born in Brooklyn and was a member of St.
Pancras' Church, Glendale, where requiem mass will be celebrated at 9:30
a.m. tomorrow.  He is survived by his parents, Charles and Anna BECK; a
brother, Charles, who is with the Third Infantry, and two sisters, Anna and
Lillian.  John SEHY & Son, of 2745 Myrtle avenue, have charge of the burial
in Holy Trinity Cemetery.

Rose F. FITZPATRICK, wife of John R. FITZPATRICK, Jr., and sister of
Margaret DEASE, Frank, John and James O'DONNELL and Catherine SABATINO, died
yesterday at her home, 2029 Ocean avenue.  Requiem mass will be celebrated
at 9:30 a.m., tomorrow in the Church of St. Brendan.

Leonora V. RICE, wife of Phillip RICE, died yesterday at her home, 288
Seventy-fifth street.

Marie P. HARLIN, daughter of Paul and Margaret KELHER, died yesterday at the
home of her parents, 183 Schaefer street.  The funeral will be held tomorrow
at 2 p.m.  Interment at Calvary Cemetery, under direction of FEENEY & Son,
of 1857 Broadway.

Anna DESSER, who died yesterday at her home, 285 Pulaski street, was 30
years old.  The funeral services will be held at noon tomorrow.  She is
survived by her husband, Louis DESSER.  She was a member of the Jacob S.
Strahl Benevolent Society.  Interment at New Mount Carmel Cemetery under
direction of Sol. JACOBSON, of 500 599 Kosclusko street.

Gertrude FEUERISEN died Sunday at her home, 414 Kosclusko street.  She is
survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry FEUERISEN.  The remains were
buried yesterday in Mt. Carmel Cemetery under the direction of Sol.
JACOBSON, of 599 Kosclusko street.

Sarah Elizabeth DUBOIS, widow of Henry C. DUBOIS, died yesterday at her
home, 1793 Brooklyn avenue.  The funeral services will be held at 8 p.m.
tomorrow.  Burial Thursday at Catskill, N. Y.

Requiem mass was celebrated at 11 a.m. today in the Church of St. Gregory
for Carlos ANGEL, who died Saturday.  He was the son of Mr. and Mrs.
Alexander ANGEL.  The burial was in Holy Cross Cemetery.

Sister M. BARNADINA, of the Order of St. Joseph, daughter of the late
Charles and Ellen O'CONNELL, died Sunday.  She is survived by two brother,
Patrick and James, and a sister, Mrs. Margaret DOUGHERTY.  Funeral services
were held this morning, followed by interment at Brentwood.

John J. LENNON, whose parents, Mr. and Mrs. James E. LENNON, live at Sackett
and Smith streets, died yesterday at the Pelham Bay Navel Hospital.  LENNON
was born in Brooklyn and attended St. Agnes' parochial school.  Last July he
enlisted in the First Company of the Third Regiment, United States Navy.  He
is survived by his parents and one sister, Marion.  The funeral will be held
Thursday morning from his parents' home; thence to St. Agnes' Church, where
requiem mass will be offered. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery under
direction of Peter DORAN, of 210 Hoyt street.

James Allen EDWARDS died yesterday at his home, 239 Monitor street.  He was
born in Greenpoint fifteen years ago and is survived by his parents, Mrs.
and Mrs. John EDWARDS, one brother, John T. and one sister, Mrs. Edith
HENRY.  The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday with burial in Mt.
Olivet Cemetery under direction of John K. WEIGAND, of 207 Nassau avenue.

George C. POWERS died suddenly on Sunday at his home, 2114 West Sixth
street.  He is survived by his widow, Marie, and a son, Thomas.

Katherine JENNINGS died Sunday at the home of her cousin, Mrs. Patrick
MONAHAN, 258 Schenectady avenue.  She is survived by six sisters and three
brothers.  The funeral will be held tomorrow at 10 a.m. with requiem mass in
St. Matthew's R. C. Church, Eastern Parkway and Utica avenue.  Interment at

Harold U. CLAPP, who died on Saturday after a long illness at his home, 300
Chauncey street, was born in Chicago twenty-five years ago, and had been a
resident of Brooklyn for twenty-four years.  He was formerly employed by the
Gregg Coffe Company, of Manhattan, and is survived by his parents, Mary and
Oscar CLAPP.  Funeral services will be held this evening at 8 o'clock at the
home of his mother, 51 Eldert street.  Interment at Maple Grove Cemetery.

Eleanora R. A. RATHJEN, widow of Henry D. RATHJEN, died yesterday at her
home, 479 Harman street.  She was born in New York City in 1852 and is
survived by three daughters.  The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday,
with burial in Lutheran Cemetery under direction of Peter BLASIUS, of 121
Norman avenue.

Ernest KREITZBERG died Sunday at his home, in is sixty-first year.  He was
a member of Lodge No. 1141, B. P. O. Elks, and is survived by a widow, Mary;
two daughters, Margaret GEIGER and Ida MESCH, and four sons, Ernest, Walter,
Awold (?) and Harry.  William WERST, of 365 Evergreen avenue, has charge of
the burial in Lutheran Cemetery at 2 p.m. tomorrow.

Paul J. CRAWFORD, a fireman on the U. S. S. Pocahontas, died Sunday
afternoon.  He is survived by his mother, Margaret CRAWFORD, and a brother,
Thomas, and five sisters, Mrs. Christopher AUER, Anna, Lucy, Theresa and
Monica.  The funeral will be held at 9 a.m. tomorrow from the establishment
of J. A. McCLEAN, of 263 Bridge street; thence to the church of St. Francis
Xavier where requiem mass will be celebrated at 10 o'clock.  The burial will
be in Holy Cross Cemetery.

Anna N. OBERLE, of 278 Hamburg avenue, who died yesterday, is survived by
her
husband, George, her parents, Christian and Teresa EPPLER, and one brother,
Christian.  Requiem mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. tomorrow in the
Church of St. Barbara and the remains will be buried in St. John's Cemetery
under direction of William WERST, of 365 Evergreen avenue.

Isabel GARCIA TYLER, wife of Hazen G. TYLER, died yesterday at the home of
her mother, Mrs. Catherine m. GARCIA, of 307 Macon street.  She was a member
of the Church of Our Lady of Victory, where requiem mass will be celebrated
at 9 a.m. Thursday.  Mrs. TYLER is survived in addition to her husband and
mother, by two daughters, Eugenia and Isabel; one son, Hazen, Jr., and a
brother, Regimental Sergeant Major Frank GARCIA, Seventy-seventh Division
Headquarters in France.  The remains will be buried in Holy Cross Cemetery
under direction of J. H. TRACY, of 1587 Fulton street.

Madeline McMAHON, daughter of the late Edward McMAHON, died Sunday at her
home, 169A Stuyvesant avenue, of pneumonia.  She is survived by her mother,
four sisters and three brothers.  Requiem mass tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. in the
Church of St. John the Baptist.  Burial in Holy Cross Cemetery under
direction of Charles B. MARTIN.

Elizabeth MONTGOMERY died yesterday at her home, 1654 East Tenth street.
She was born in Ireland sixty-one years ago, had lived in Brooklyn for forty
years and is survived by one son, David, and two daughters, Rose and
Elizabeth.  She was a member of the Church of St. Brendan, where requiem
mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. tomorrow.  Under direction of T. J.
HIGGINS, of 214 Jay street, the remains will be buried in Holy Cross Cemetery.

Mary Alice CRONIN, daughter of Edward and Mary FLEMING CRONIN, died Sunday
at her home, 790 Myrtle avenue.  She was a member of the Church of St.
Ambrose and a student in the parochial school.  In addition to her parents,
she is survived by three brothers.  Interment was made this afternoon at
Holy Cross Cemetery under direction of William DUNIGAN & Son, of 201 Park avenue.

Katherine JENNINGS, who died at the
home of her cousin, Mrs. Patrick MONOHAN, 253 Schenectady avenue, was born
in County Mayo, Ireland, twenty-nine years ago and had resided in New York
for six years.  She is survived by six sisters, Mrs. Mary McDERMOTT, Mrs.
Annie SWEENEY, Mrs. Nora CONNOLLY, Mrs.. Delia LANDRIGAN, Mrs. Robert QUINN
and Mrs. Margaret MYLAND, and three brothers, Patrick, Richard and Michael
JENNINGS.  A mass of requiem will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday in St.
Matthew's Church, Eastern Parkway and Utica avenue.  Interment at Calvary
Cemetery under direction of Charles J. BRADY, of 232 Utica avenue.

Roland W. MORRIS, who died yesterday at his home, 415 Forty-ninth street,
was 27 years of age and was a member of the Maritime Exchange of New York.
He is survived by his parents, Frances and Charles, and two brothers, David
and Adolf.

Capt. Peter B. STEELE, a veteran of the Civil War, a head of department of
the firm of James H. DUNHAM & Co., of Manhattan, and formerly a member of
the wholesale importing house of OPDYKE, PERRY & STEELE, died on Saturday
at his home, 65 Midwood street.  He was born in Utica, N. Y., eighty-one
years ago and had been a resident of Brooklyn for thirty-six years.  At the
time of the start of the Civil War, Capt. STEELE was a lieutenant in the
Seventh Regiment and joined the 156th New York Volunteers as head of a
company.  He was discharged with the rank of lieutenant colonel.  He was
presented with a diamond cross by the Seventh Regiment for bravery in
action.He was a member of the old Brooklyn Union League Club, the Carlson Club,
was formerly warden and vestryman of St. John's P. E. Church.  He is
survived by three sons, Edgar B., in the United States service; Oscar W. and
William, and three daughters, Mrs. Anna B. BIGGAR, Mrs. Ida C. FISTE and
Katherine STEELE.

Catherine BATCHLOR, daughter of Charles and Isabella BATCHLOR, died Sunday
in St. Peter's Hospital.  She was born in the Erie Basin section
twenty-three years ago.  Funeral services will be held at 8:30 tonight at
her late home, 149 Sullivan street, the Rev. Dr. William HAMILTON, of the
First Place M. E. Church officiating.  She is survived by her parents, two
brothers, Andrew and Peter, and four sisters, Jessie, Elizabeth, Evelyn and
Helen.  Interment tomorrow morning at Cypress Hills Cemetery under direction
of Henry J. FLOOD, of Van Brunt street.

Jane Louise BURKE died Sunday at her home, 16 Lawton street.  She was the
widow of Thomas BURKE and is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth and Mrs.
Nellie McKINNON, and one sister, Mrs. FORTWINGLER.  Mrs. BURKE was formerly
a member of St. Patrick's Church and at the time of her death was a member
of the Church of St. John the Baptist, Lewis and Willoughby avenues.  The

Cemetery under direction of John C. TRACY, of 908 Kent avenue.

Ida FOUNTAIN, wife of Joseph FOUNTAIN, died Sunday at her home, 211
Twenty-third street.  She was born in Bay City, Mich., and had lived here
for five years.  She is survived in addition to her husband by one son,
Joseph.  The remains were buried in St. John's Cemetery this afternoon under
direction of Henry J. FLOOD, of 297 Van Brunt street.

Many residents of the Park Slope section are mourning the death of Mrs.
Esther KUAZANSKY, niece of Deputy Sheriff John J. GABAY, which occurred
after
a brief illness on Sunday.  She was the daughter of the late Elijah and
Rachel LIPPMAN, for many years well known residents of South Brooklyn, and
was only 26 years old.  Her husband, Philip KUAZANSKY, and two infants,
Rosalind and Sylvia, survive her.  Her brothers and sisters, all well known
in the Park Slope section are Abe and Mark LIPPMANN, Mrs. Milton
STAVENHAGEN, Mrs. Charles AUSIANDER, Miss Mary LIPPMAN and Mrs. Carrie
MORRIS, of Springfield, Mass.  The funeral will be held tomorrow at 3 p.m.
from the residence of her brother, Abe LIPPMAN, 437 Sixteenth street.

Margaret SPECKIN, wife of William SPECKIN, and daughter of Henry and
Margaret TIETGEN, died yesterday in her twenty-ninth year.  Funeral from her
late home, 113 Wolcott street, on Thursday at 10 a.m., with requiem mass in
the Church of the Visitation.  She is survived by her husband, William; two
daughters, Margaret and Dorothy; one son, William; her parents, two
brothers, Frank and Henry, and four sisters, Christine, Emma, Mary and

Caroline CHAPIN, born in Brooklyn, a daughter of Martha E. and the late
Henry CHAPIN, died suddenly yesterday of pneumonia, at her home, 114 St.
Mars avenue.  She is survived besides her mother by two sisters, Miss M. R.
CHAPIN and Mrs. C. E. BAKER.  Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 5
p.m. at her late home.  Interment on Thursday private.

George C. BLANCHARD, a graduate of P. S. 139 and of Erasmus Hall High
School, died on Friday after a short illness of pneumonia at his home, 222
East Seventeenth street.  He was born in Brooklyn eighteen years ago, and
was a partner with his brother, Frank, in the flour and grain business at
168 Eighth street.  He is survived by his mother, Mary; his brother, Frank,
and three sisters.  Funeral services were held last evening at his late
home.  Interment today at New London, Conn.

Amelia FELTMAN, who died on Saturday at her home, 7?0 Myrtle avenue, was
born April ?, 1865, and was the widow of Harry FELTMAN.  She is survived by

John SINNOTT, a member of the New York Produce Exchange, died yesterday at
his home, 160 McDonough street.  He was born in Minneapolis, Minn., and had
been a resident of Brooklyn for twenty years.  He was a flour merchant,
connected with the firm of Thomas E. SINNOTT & Son.  He was a member of the
New York Flour Club.  He is survived by his mother, Mary; two sisters, Mary
and Rose, and a brother, Thomas.  The funeral will be held tomorrow at 9:30
a.m., with requiem mass in the Church of Our Lady of Victory, Throop avenue

John KEEGAN, for the past forty years watchman for John Morton's Sons, in
Carroll street, died yesterday at his home, 383 Carroll street.  He was born
in County Longford, Ireland, and had been a resident of Brooklyn for forty
years.  He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Margaret LARKIN, Mrs.
Elizabeth DOUGHERTY and Mrs. Helen ANDERSON, and three sons, John, Edward
and Frank, the latter with Company C, of the Second Infantry.  The funeral
will be held on Thursday at 9:30 a.m., with requiem mass in St. Agnes' R. C.

Clara MICHAELIS, who died on Sunday at her home, 136 Norman avenue, was born

William MICHAELIS died yesterday at his home, 23 Driggs avenue.  He was born
in Brooklyn thirty-three years ago and is survived by his parents, his widow

Hugh BANNON, Jr., husband of Helen BLOOMQUIST, died yesterday after a short
illness at his home.  He was born in Brooklyn and was a member of St. Luke's
P. E. Church.  He is survived , besides his widow and child, by his parents,
three sisters and three brothers.  Funeral services at the home of his
parents, 649 Vanderbilt avenue, tomorrow evening at 8 o'clock.  Interment at

George R. MARSDEN, a retired compositor and a member of Typographical Union
No. 6, died on Saturday at his home, 885 Fortieth street.  He is survived by

Corporal Joseph F. THOMPSON, a member of the U. S. Army for five years,
died on Oct. 8 at Fort Beauregard, La., of pneumonia.  He was born in
Brooklyn twenty-eight years ago, and was with the American Army on the
Mexican border.  He was a member of St. Michael's R. C. Church and before
enlisting was connected with the B. R. T.  He is survived by his mother,

John BOWES, a native of County Tipperary, Ireland, died yesterday at his

sister, Mrs. Ellen BURKE.  He was employed by the Brooklyn Union Gas Company
and was a member of the Holy Name Society attached to St. Mary Star of the

John M. GRACE, son of Michael and Anna McGUIRE GRACE. of 150 Smith street,
died on Friday at the Naval Hospital, Portsmouth, Va., of pneumonia.  He was

Gargona.  He is survived, in addition to his parents, by five sisters and a

Elizabeth S. DUFFY, who died yesterday of influenza at her home, 271 Baltic

Eugene E. GOTIMER, assistant paymaster of the Phoenix Construction Company,
U. S. A. Construction Corps., No 705, A. E. F., and who had been in France
for the past year and just recently returned home, died of pneumonia today

years ago and is survived by his parents, Mary A. and Eugene GOTIMER; a

Elizabeth CARROLL CLAYTON, widow of Samuel B. CLAYTON, died Saturday at the
home of her daughter, Mrs. Joseph W. CURRIER, 44 Westminster road, aged 95

the Maple Grove Cemetery.  She is survived by two sons, Thomas and Benjamin

Katherine BOURKE, born in Brooklyn, died on Sunday at her home, 159 Tenth

John KANE, connected with the Brooklyn Union Gas Company for fifteen years,

Frank J. FIEGEL, a certified public accountant, died suddenly Saturday at
his home, 412 Chauncy street.  He was born in Jacksonville, Fla.,
thirty-four years ago and had been a resident of Brooklyn practically all

Mary A.; two daughters, Dorothy and Vivian; his parents, James and Rose

Susan DONAHUE died at her home, 716 Classon avenue, Sunday.  She was the
widow of Patrick DONAHUE and had lived in Brooklyn all her life.  The

James J. DOOLEY, of 855 Hancock street, died at his home early today of
pneumonia.  He was for more than twenty years, until the time of his death,
clerk in the Kings County Register's office.  He lived for many years at 847
South Fourth street, up to one year ago, when he bought the house in which
he died.  He lived there with his sister, Alice E. DOOLEY, and his two
nieces, the Misses CAMPBELL.

Katherine T. DUHIG died yesterday at her home, 1494 Bushwick avenue.  She
was born in Brooklyn and is survived by her parents, John P. and Helena
DOOLEY DUHIG; three sisters, Mary, Margaret and Eileen, and a brother, John.

Ida MILLER, who died on Saturday at her home, 187 Butler street, was born in

The funeral of Eliza C. MELVILLE,who died on Friday at her home, 2450 Dean

born in Canada seventy-three years ago and had been a resident of Brooklyn

William G. ANBACH, died yesterday after a short illness at his home, 155
Douglass street.  He was born in Germany thirty-six years ago and had been a
resident of Brooklyn for thirty-five years.  He was a butcher by occupation.

William T. HAWKINS, born in Brooklyn in 1884, and for many years in the
cooperage business, died last Saturday.  In addition to a wife and four

Edward Hampton BROWNELL, a member of an old Brooklyn family, died yesterday
in the Brooklyn Hospital.  He was born in the downtown section sixty-two
years ago, and was educated at Polytechnic Institute.  He was treasurer of
the E. P. Reichhelm Company  , of 24-26 John street, Manhattan, and in his

he was associated with the Central Congregational Church.  He is survived by
his widow, Laura; two daughters, Florence and Marion; a son, Fred H., of

Sarah KRIEG, 60 years old, died of apoplexy on Sunday at 218 Ralph avenue.

BROOKLYN SOLDIER DIES IN CAMP OF PNEUMONIA
    Camp Wadsworth, Spartanburg, S. C., Oct. 15. - Private Henry HEDENKAMP,
Fifty-eighth Pioneer Infantry ,died at the base hospital last night of
pneumonia.  His home is at 249 Lefferts avenue, Brooklyn.

PRIVATE HEDENKAMP DIES OF PNEUMONIA AT CAMP
    Private Harry HEDENKAMP, whose parents live at 249 Lefferts avenue, died
of pneumonia at Camp Wadsworth last Saturday.  HEDENKAMP was twenty-three
years old, was born in Brooklyn and graduated at Public School 92.  He was
drafted last April, and, after two weeks at Camp Upton, was sent South,
where he was assigned to Co. I. of the Fifty-eighth Pioneer Infantry.  He
leaves five sisters and a brother.

MANY PAY LAST TRIBUTE TO PRIVATE GUSTAMOLSKY
    More than 3,000 persons attended the funeral of Private Moses
GUSTAMOLSKY, which was held Sunday from the home of his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Morris GUSTAMOLSKY, 1033 Douglass street.  The services were in charge
of Rabbi GRAFMAN of the Thatford Avenue Synagogue.  Interment was in Cypress
Hills Cemetery, a detachment of soldiers from Fort Hamilton firing a volley
as the coffin was lowered to it's last resting place.  In the gathering that
assembled to pay it's respects were many men prominent in sporting circles.
    Private GUSTAMOLSKY, formerly employed in the circulation department of
The Standard Union, died last Monday at the Edgewood Arsenal, Edgewood, Md.,
where he had been stationed several months.

DOUBLE FUNERAL
    Requiem mass was celebrated this morning in the Church of the Holy Name
for George PERILLO and his sister, Mary ADDEO.  Mr. PERILLO died on Oct. 6
in the base hospital at the Edgewood Arsenal, Maryland, and Mrs. ADDEO
expired last Friday at her home, 472 Seventeenth street, from which address
the double funeral was held.  Both are survived by their mother, Teresa
PERILLO and three brothers, and Mrs. ADDEO by her husband, Jerry, and six
children.  Interment was made at Calvary Cemetery under direction of T.
HIGGINS, of 214 Jay street.

York, died on Monday of pneumonia at the home of her mother, 307 Macon
street.  She was born in Brooklyn thirty-two years ago and is survived

lawyer, who is now attached to the Judge Advocate's office as regimental
sergeant-major with the American Army in France; two daughters, Isabel
J. and Eugenia; a son, Hazen G., Jr., and her mother.  The funeral will
be held tomorrow morning with requiem mass in the church of our Lady of
Victory.  Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Joseph McINERNY, who died Sunday of pneumonia at his home, 108 Beder
avenue, Richmond Hill, is survived by his widow, Elizabeth, and two
daughters, Grace and Ida.  The funeral was held this morning from her
late residence, thence to the Church of St. Benedict Joseph, where
requiem mass was celebrated.  Interment at St. John's Cemetery under
direction of George T. McHUGH, of 744 Myrtle avenue.

James E. GARNER, proprietor of the Manhattan House Cleaning Company in
Manhattan, and a resident of Brooklyn most of his life, died on Monday
in his offices at 344 West Thirty-seventh street, Manhattan.  He was
born in Charles County, Maryland, thirty-eight years ago, and is
survived by two brothers, Arthur and James GARNER, and two
grandchildren.  The funeral will be held tomorrow at his late home, 387
Gates avenue, with interment at Cypress Hills Cemetery.

William M. TITUS, a retired commercial traveler, formerly in the
hardware trade and a resident of the Hill section for many years, died
on Sunday at his home, 56 Fort Greene place.  He was born in Manhattan
sixty-four years ago, a son of the late Samuel P. TITUS, and was a life
long member of the Society of Friends.  He is survived by his widow,
Mary; a daughter, Mrs. Ruth BICKEL, of Cleveland, Oh., and a sister,
Miss Caroline J. TITUS.  Funeral services were held yesterday with
interment at the Quaker Cemetery, Prospect Park.

Charles W. TUCKER, aged fifty-four years, died on Monday at his home,
215 Beaufort avenue, Woodhaven.  He was born in Brooklyn and was a son
of the late Elisha C. and Margaret WIGGINS TUCKER.  He had lived for
twenty-five years in Woodhaven and was a member of the Woodhaven Exempt
Volunteer Firemen's Association.  He leaves a daughter, Miss Martha
TUCKER, of Woodhaven.  Funeral services were held yesterday in Leonard
RUOFF's chapel, Jerome avenue, Woodhaven.  Interment at Cypress Hills.

Anna ANDERSON, wife of Paul ANDERSON, died yesterday at her home, 487
Court street.  She was born in Norway in 1867 and had been a resident of
Brooklyn for twenty years.  Besides her husband she is survived by four

Anna G. DESSER, wife of Louis J. DESSER, died on Monday of pneumonia at
her home, 285 Pulaski street.  She was born in Hungary thirty years ago
and had been a resident of Brooklyn most of her life.  She is survived
in addition to her husband by a son, Fischel; a brother, Abraham, and a
sister, Frances GREENBERG.  The funeral was held today with interment at
Mount Carmel Cemetery.

Josephine T. WHITEHEAD, wife of William H. WHITEHEAD, died in Denver,
Col., on Oct. 7.  She was the eldest daughter of the Rev. Dr. I. L.
TOWNSEND, who lived the last dozen years of his life in Brooklyn with
his daughter, Mrs. Walter M. WILSON, at 233 Greene avenue.  She was born
in Cherry Valley, N.Y., and is survived, besides her husband, by two
daughters, Lucretia and Josephine.  Interment was at Golden, Col.

Funeral services will be conducted this evening at 8 o'clock by the Rev.
Dr. HEISCHMANN, of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, for Henry J. HELMKEN,
Jr., who died of influenza at Camp Mills on Sunday.  He was born
twenty-three years ago in Brooklyn and was a member of Hook and Ladder
No. 123, Twentieth Assembly District Democratic Club and was a private
in the Quartermaster's Corps. at Camp Mills.  He is survived by his
parents, Henry and Mary; three sisters, Helen, Elsie and May; and three
brothers, William, George and Frederick.  Interment at Lutheran Cemetery
tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. under direction of Thomas L. KEARNS of Bushwick
and Furman avenues.  The family lives at 1461 Bushwick avenue.

Herman E. KERN died yesterday at his home, 532 Prospect avenue,
Ridgewood, after a brief illness.  He was born in Brooklyn Feb. 19,
1888, and is survived by his widow, Marion; one son, Donald; his
parents, Jacob and Christina KERN; two brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held at his late home tomorrow evening at 8
o'clock.  Interment Friday morning at Lutheran Cemetery under direction
of John G. LUTZ & Sons.

Bridget CLINE, who died on Sunday at her home, the Hudson House, Central
and Clark avenues, Far Rockaway, was born in Ireland seventy-nine years
ago and for the past thirty years had owned and conducted a hotel.  She
is survived by two daughters, Mary and Kathryn, and a son, Robert.  The
funeral was held this morning at 10 o'clock with a requiem mass at St.
Mary Star of the Sea R. C. Church, with interment at St. Mary's
Cemetery, Lawrence.

Private Edwin GLADDING, a member of the 124th Infantry at Camp Mills,
died on Monday of pneumonia at Camp Mills.  He lived at 141 East
Thirty-fifth street.  He was born in Manhattan thirty years ago and
before entering the army was employed by the Flatbush Gas Company and
was a member of Jr. O. F. A. M.  He is survived by his widow, Elizabeth,
and three sisters and a brother.

Joseph A. DOLAN died yesterday in the Methodist Episcopal Hospital.  He
was born in Manhattan twenty-three years ago and had been a resident of
Brooklyn for five years.  He was a shipbuilder and is survived by his
parents, Andrew and Flora DOLAN.  The funeral will be held on Friday at
9:30 a.m. from his late home, 99 Fifteenth street, thence to the Church
of the Holy Family, where requiem mass will be celebrated.  Interment at
Calvary Cemetery under direction of Henry J. FLOOD, of 297 Van Brunt street.

Katherine T. DUHIG, died on Monday at her home, 1494 Bushwick avenue.
She was born in Brooklyn and is survived by her parents, John P. and
Helenia D., and three sisters, Mary Margaret and Ellen, and a brother,
John.  The funeral will be held tomorrow at 9 a.m., with requiem mass in
the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes.  Interment at St. John's Cemetery
under direction of FEENEY & Son, of 1857 Broadway.

William HEINRICHS, and old member and a trustee of the St. John's
Lutheran Church, Milton street, died on Monday at his home, 217 Eckford
street, after a long illness.  He was born in Germany seventy years ago,
and had been a resident of the Greenpoint section for fifty years.  He
established the HENRICH confectionery business at 754 Manhattan avenue,
but retired a few years ago.  He is survived by his widow, Dorthea; six
sons, two daughters, and four grandchildren.  Funeral services will be
held Friday at 2 p.m. in St. John's Lutheran Church, with interment at
Lutheran Cemetery.

Clara W. PALMER, wife of Percy S. PALMER, for several years an engineer
in the employ of the New York Public Service Commission, died on
Saturday of pneumonia at her home, 1341 Seventy-seventh street.  She was
born in Ithaca, N. Y., where she will be buried.  She is survived in
addition to her husband by two children, her parents and two sisters.

JOHN J. LENNON DIES IN U. S. NAVAL SERVICE
    A solemn requiem mass will be sung tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. at St.
Agnes' R. C. Church for John J. LENNON., late of the Naval Reserve
forces.  He was born in Brooklyn twenty-two years ago, and enlisted July
20, 1918.  Previously he had been employed as assistant storekeeper for
the United States Shipping Board.  Up to the time of his death he was
stationed at Pelham Bay Naval Training Station, where he contracted
pneumonia, which resulted in his death.
    He was graduated from St. Agnes' Parochial School in 1910 and was a
member of St. Agnes' Holy Name Society and St. Agnes' Club.  He is
survived by his father, James E. LENNON, chief custodian in the
Surrogate's Court of Kings County; his mother, Marie J. LENNON, and a
sister, Marion.  The funeral will be held from his late home, 331
Sackett street.  Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery.

VICTIM OF INFLUENZA ENDS LIFE
Influenza was responsible early today for the suicide of Kuslmere
SZELYANSKI, 29 years old. of 102 North Seventh street.  He threw himself
from a third-story window at his home, landing on a fence, the pickets
of which punctured his lung.  he died a short time after his removal to
Williamsburg Hospital.

Dr. Robert H. SCOTT, lieutenant in the Naval Reserves and master of
Acanthus Lodge, 719, F. and A. M., died yesterday after an illness of a
few days of pneumonia at Peekskill, where he had been transferred from
Bridgeport in his official capacity.  He was 34 years old and a son of
Dr. Peter SCOTT, of 126 New York avenue.  Besides his father he is
survived by his widow, Florence, and an uncle, Homer L. BARTLETT, of 785
Monroe street.  He was born in Scotland and came to the United States
when eight months old.  He attended the Polytechnic Institute, Amherst
College and was a graduate of Long Island College Hospital.  After
taking his medical degree he was attached to the Brooklyn Hospital and
later joined the Naval Reserves.  He also was a member of Clan McDonald,
the Municipal Club and the Lewis Avenue Congregational Church.  Funeral
services will be held tonight at his late residence, 128 Reid avenue.

Ida J. WILSON, who died yesterday after a short illness in Long Island
College Hospital, was born in Manhattan and had been a resident of
Brooklyn most of her life.  She is survived by her husband, Charles H.;
her mother, Minnie L. LYNCH; two sisters, Mrs. Thomas J. PILLION and
Mrs. H. R. TRIGGE, and two brothers, Frank R. and Charles W. LYNCH.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 8:30 p.m. at her late home,

The Rev. George A. LATALILLE, formerly of Brooklyn, died on Monday at
Northda, Canada.  He was born in Brooklyn thirty years ago and had
attended St. Alphonsus School in the Greenpoint Section.  He was
ordained on Dec. 24, 1917, at Montreal.  He is survived by his father
and two brothers.  The funeral will be held tomorrow at 10 a.m. with
requiem mass in St. Alphonsus' Church.  Interment at St. John's

James FITZPATRICK, son of the late Owen and Anna FITZPATRICK, died
Monday in Kings County Hospital of pneumonia.  He was born in the old
Ninth Ward and lived in the upper part of what is now the Twenty-fourth
Ward all his life.  He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Anna BRADY.

Charles B. PORTER, who died Oct. 10 at his home, 318 Eighth street, was

Savannah, Ga., and three sisters, Louisa FISCHER, Mrs. WAGNER and Mrs.

James J. CRONIN, Jr., 17 years old, son of James J. and Ann HALL CRONIN,
died Monday at his home, 550 Forty-fifth street.  He is survived,
besides his parents, by a sister, Margaret, and a brother, Joseph.

August BAUER, who died on Monday at his home, 2563 Hughes street,
Ridgewood, of Bright's disease, was born in the Eleventh Ward of
Manhattan, March 31, 1859, and had been a resident of Brooklyn for
fifteen years. He was a cigarmaker, and is survived by his widow,
Sylvenia; a son, Francis, and a daughter, Marcella.  The funeral will

Joseph A. SKELLY, who died suddenly on Monday, was born in Brooklyn, the
son of James and Minnie SKELLY.  He attended St. Patrick's R. C. Church,
was a pupil of its' school and is survived in addition to his parents by
three brothers, John, James and William, and one sister, Matilda.  The

James P.  GILL, who, with his twin brother, entered the Naval Reserve
forces soon after this country entered the war, died Monday of pneumonia
in flushing.  He was 21 years old.

Dietrick ALPERS, who was born in Germany seventy-six years ago, and had
been a resident of Brooklyn for fifty years, died Monday.  He is
survived by his widow, Anna; four sons, John H., George D., Jacob F. and

Florence Marie ROTH, who was born in this country twenty-one years ago,

Hugh Semper RAWLINS, 25 years old, an aviator instructor at Parkville,

Eric Hanson HOLMEN, who died on Monday in St. Catharine's Hospital was
born in Guttenberg, Sweden, thirty-six years ago, and had been a

Edward WILSON, husband of Anna MURPHY WILSON, died yesterday at the home

Greenpoint section of Brooklyn for twelve years, and of East New York
for two years.  He was a clerk employed by the New York, New Haven and
Hartford Railroad, and is survived by his widow, Anna; two daughters,
Virginia and Margaret; two sons, Edward and Harold; his parents, Charles
and Nellis WILSON, three brothers, Benjamin and Eugene in France, and

Emeline Alstyne BURR, ninety-three years old, the second wife of Joseph
Arthur BURR, who was the father of the late justice Joseph A. BURR, died
yesterday , of old age, at her residence, 145 Rodney street.  Mrs. BURR
was born in Manhattan on Aug. 8, 1826.  The funeral will be held
tomorrow afternoon.

Anna Henreitta ROHDE, who died yesterday after a short illness of
pneumonia at her home, 24 Onderdonk avenue, was born in Brooklyn
twenty-two years ago and had been a member of the South Third Street M.
E. Church.  She is survived by her husband, Herbert and her parents,

Elizabeth G. FREEMAN,  widow of Frederick A. FREEMAN, died on Monday at
her home, 273 Madison avenue, Flushing.  She is survived by three sons,

William P. BERRY.

Timothy D. LYONS, connected with the Public Service Commission at Albany
and formerly superintendent of the Nassau branch of the Brooklyn Union
Gas Company, died on Monday at his home, 264 Prospect place.  He was
born in the old Twelfth Ward of Brooklyn sixty-four years ago and was a
member of the Holy Name Society of St. Joseph's R. C. Church.  He is
survived by his widow, Ellen A.; three sons, Francis T., of Port
Washington; Albert D. and Ensign Arthur J., U. S. N.; a daughter, Mrs.
George L. BESTON, and four grandchildren.  The funeral will be held

Henry C. WENDELCKE, a gold-pen maker, died on Sunday of heart trouble at
his home, 7206 Fifth avenue.  He was born in Manhattan sixty-four years

member of the Grace P. E. Church in Bay Ridge.  He is survived by six

John SWARSBROCL. whose family has lived for many years in the old Eighteenth
Ward section of the Eastern District, died yesterday of pneumonia following
an attach of influenza, at his home, 48 Driggs avenue.  He was employed as a
pump man for the Standard Oil Company and was actively identified with the
Norwood Club.  He is survived by his mother, three brothers, Thomas, Walter
and Robert, and two sisters, Emily and Ethel.  The funeral will be held
Sunday.  Interment at Lutheran Cemetery.

Sister Mary of St. Cornelius died on Tuesday in the Convent of the Good
Shepherd.  She was known in the world as Agnes MURPHY, and was born in
Brooklyn twenty-five years ago.  For fifteen years she was a member of the
Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Help.  She had been at the Good Shepherd
Convent for six years.  She is survived by her mother, Ann; two brothers,
Richard and Martin, and three sisters, Sister Theotime, of the Order of St.
Joseph, and Anna and Mary.

George R. NICHOLSON, who died last Friday at Camp Sevier, Greenville, S. C.,
was twenty-four years old and is survived by his mother, three sisters and a
brother.  The funeral was held today at 2 p.m. from the parlors of Leonard
RUOFF, 4212 Jerome avenue, with interment at Cypress Hills Cemetery.

John REGAN, husband of Mary REGAN, died on Tuesday at his home, 414 Fortieth
street.  He was born in Oswego, N. Y., fifty-five years ago, and had been a
resident of Brooklyn for thirty-five years.  He is survived by his widow,
Mary; two sons, Frank and John; a daughter, Edith and two sisters, Mrs. E.
VAN DYKE and Mrs. R. WOODS.  He was a member of Enterprise Tent, No. 211,
Maccabees, and the Frank W. Foley Mutual Aid Society.  The funeral will be
held on Saturday at 10 a.m. with requiem mass in St. Michael's R. C. Church.

Sister Mary Flavian, of the Order of St. Francis, died on Monday of
pneumonia at the Convent of the Immaculate Conception, North Tarrytown, N.
Y.  She was formerly Miss Mary SCHULTZ, and was a pupil in St. John's
Evangelist School, Twenty-first street.  She is survived by her mother, two
brothers, John and Anthony, two sisters, Clara and Mrs. John DUFFY.  The
remains were buried this morning at Mount St. Francis, Peekskill.

John Joseph McGLOIN, son of Frances and Patrick McGLOIN, died on Tuesday
after a short illness at his home, 14 Lincoln place.  The funeral will be
held tomorrow at 3 p.m. from his late home, thence to St. Augustine's
Church, where services will be held.  Interment at Calvary Cemetery, under
direction of E. WHITE, of 210 Flatbush avenue.

Patrick VAUGHN, formerly a resident of Brooklyn, died on Tuesday at his
home, 67 East 123rd street, New York City.  He was born in the County Clare,
Ireland, and is survived by his widow, Hannah; three children; a brother,
the Rev. James VAUGHAN of California, and two sisters, Sister Margaret Mary
of the Presentation Order of North Dakota and Sister M. Rosina of the Holy
Cross Order of Washington, D. C.  The funeral was held today with a requiem

Margaret M. DIEHM, who died on Tuesday at her home, 48 Eldert lane, was born
in Brooklyn twenty-seven years ago and is survived by her husband, Charles
L; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John SCHAFFNER; five brothers, William, Henry,
Gus, John and Adolph, and two sisters, Bertha and Marie.  Funeral services

Hugh C. PALLISER, Texas manager for the Campbell Soup Company, and for
twenty-seven years a resident of Brooklyn, died last Friday at San Antonio,
Texas, of pneumonia.  He was born in Quebec thirty-nine years ago.  He is
survived by his mother, three sisters and two brothers.  He was a member of
Brooklyn Lodge, No. 22, B. P. O. Elks, and of the Cosmopolitan Lodge, No.

John C. NEZTER died last Tuesday at his home, 573 East Twenty-eighth street,
aged fifty-three years.  He had lived in Brooklyn twenty-two years.  He is

Elizabeth STAFFORD, who died on Monday at the home of her sister-in-law,

C. Church and is survived by her husband, Patrick; four daughters, Marion,
Lillian, Evelyn and Ethel; two sons, Laurence and John, and two sisters,

Private Frank H. McDERMOTT, of ??? East Fourteenth street, Sheepshead Bay,
who died last Sunday of pneumonia at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Aberdeen,
Md., was born in Brooklyn twenty-four years ago.  He was educated at P. S.
153, Sheepshead Bay and previous to being drafted in May, he was a cashier
at the Edison Company's Coney Island branch.  He was the son of the late
Police Sergeant P. H. McDERMOTT and is survived by his mother, Mrs. Ann
McDERMOTT, and three brothers, James and Thomas in the army, and Joseph.  He
is also survived by two sisters, Margaret, a yeoman in the navy, and Mrs. J.

Maud B. KELLEY, wife of Harry KELLEY and daughter of Mrs. and Mrs. ???? H.

Helen ARNOLD, daughter of George and Margaret ARNOLD, died on Tuesday at her

avenue, for Capt. Raymond Hull NOBLE, a well known lawyer and chief of the
Legal Section of the Nitrate Division, Ordinance Department, U. S. A., at

Lillian E. BARRY, who died last Monday at her home, 194 Tenth street, of
pneumonia, was born in Brooklyn in 1902, and was a member of the Holy Family
R. C. Church.  She is survived by her parents, James and Elizabeth BARRY;
three sisters, Anna, Ethel and Rose, and four brothers, James, Joseph, Harry

Charles WILUND, son of Anna ANDERSON and the late Charles WILUND, died
yesterday at his home, 328 Twenty-ninth street.  He was born in Brooklyn
sixteen years ago and was employed at Shewan's dry dock as a rivet heater.
He is survived besides his mother by three sisters, Mrs. J. ENNIS, Mildred
and Lillian, and a brother, George.  The funeral will be held on Sunday at 2

Conrad FIELDER, Jr., twenty-two years of age, died last Saturday of
pneumonia at Camp Wadsworth.  He joined the Forty-seventh Regiment at the
outset of the trouble with Mexico, and was transferred to the Sixty-first
Pioneer Infantry.  Later, he was promoted to be Supply Sergeant and was
ready for France when taken ill.  He was born in the Eastern District and
was a member of SS. Peter and Paul's R. C. Church.  He is survived by his
widow, Hilda; his parents; three sisters and two brothers.  The funeral will
be held at his late home, 96 South Fourth street at 3 p.m. tomorrow.

Susan W. BURROUGHS, widow of James BURROUGHS, a builder, died in her
eighty-third year on Monday at the home of her daughter, 319 Lincoln road,
Flatbush.  She was one of the earliest members of All Souls Universalist
Church in the Eastern District.  She is survived by three daughters, Mrs.
Mary L. MAY, Mrs. COBB and Susan M. BURROUGHS and three grandchildren.

Mary T. FOX died Tuesday at her home, 358 Baltic street.  She had been ill
only a short time.  She is survived by her mother and three brothers.  The

Florence FECHER, born in Brooklyn thirty-one years, died on Monday at her

Anthony Louis SCHEFFERING died on Wednesday at his home, 3211 Fulton street.
He was a son of Mary CRING and the late Anthony SCHEFFERINE.  He was born in

Edison Company for the past eight years.  He is survived by four brothers,

Charles WALTERS, who died at Camp Dix of pneumonia last Monday was a private

survived by his father, Joseph; three brothers, Albert, John and Joseph, and
two sisters, Mrs. Louise CLARK and Lillie WILSON.  Services will be held at

Phillipina FICHT, who died yesterday at her home, 390 Hart street, was born
in Worms, Germany, eighty-nine years ago, and had been a resident of
Brooklyn for fifty years.  She was one of the oldest living members of St.
Luke's Lutheran Church, and had been a Sunday school teacher there for fifty
years.  She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

George A. BEYER, who died at his home, 228 St. Nicholas avenue, was born in
Germany seventy-four years ago and had lived in the Eastern District for
fifty years.  He was a captain in the old twenty-eighth Regiment, N. G. S.
N. Y., and is survived by a widow, Elizabeth HOERNER; three sons, George,
Jr., Henry and Emil, and two daughters, Mrs. Emma SCHREIBER and Mrs. Anna

Joseph BEACH died suddenly yesterday in his fifty-sixth year at 326 Hamburg

Elizabeth BELL ROGERS EHRLER, born in Jamaica, Feb.28, 1896, a daughter of
John J. and Mary E. BELL ROGERS, died yesterday at her home, 44 Lincoln
avenue, of pneumonia.  She had been for the greater part of her life a
resident of Jamaica and was educated in St. Monica's parochial school.  For
the past two years she had been a member of the Blessed Sacrament R. C.
Church, where a mass of requiem will be celebrated tomorrow at 9 a.m.  In
addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Frank L. EHRLER;

Arthur C. JACOB, 25 years old, who saw service in the American Ambulance

Theresa ROMER, daughter of the late Julia and James LOUGHLIN, of the Fifth
Ward, died on Tuesday, after a brief illness, at her home, 318 Sixteenth
street.  She was born in Brooklyn and had been a member of St. Anne's R. C.
Church for a number of years.  She is survived by her husband, Tobias; a
son, James; four sisters, Mrs. J. McCARTHY, Mrs. GERRATY, Mrs. YOUNG and

Coxswain Reginald BUSHNELL, son of Mrs. William PALMER of 299 Glenwood
avenue, East Orange, N. J., died yesterday in the Brooklyn Navy Yard
Hospital of pneumonia, following influenza.  He was 25 years old and was in
the Naval Reserves.

Helen McNAMARA, born in County Clare, Ireland, and a resident of Brooklyn
for twenty years, died on Tuesday after a short illness at her home, 1276
Nostrand avenue.  She was a member of St. Francis R. C. Church and is
survived by her husband, William; two daughters, Mary and Helen; her
parents, William and Mary KEENAN and a sister and brother.  The funeral will
be held tomorrow at 9 a.m. with requiem mass in the church.  Interment at
Holy Cross Cemetery under direction of P. J. DALEY & Sons, of 438 Hicks street.

George WURM died yesterday at his home, 15 St. Andrews place.  He was
twenty-five years old, and is survived by his widow, Marion, a daughter,
Gertrude; his parents, two sisters and two brothers.  Funeral services will
be held tomorrow at 2 p.m. at his late home, with interment at Evergreen Cemetery.

Clara BESENER, who died on Tuesday at her home, 33 East Seventh street, was
born in Germany twenty-eight years ago and is survived by her husband and
three children.  She was a member of St. Mark's German Lutheran Church, the
pastor of which, the Rev. William HUTSFF, will conduct services tomorrow at
2 p.m.  Interment at Greenwood Cemetery under direction of E. F. HIGGINS, of
1289 Prospect avenue.

Alfred JOHANSEN,who died on Tuesday at his home, 188 Jay street, was born in
Norway forty-nine years ago and had been a resident of Brooklyn for thirty
years.  He was a member of St. James Pro-Cathedral and had been employed as
a rigger in the Navy Yard.  He is survived by two sons, Charles and Robert,
and a daughter, Isabel.  The funeral will be held on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.,
with interment at Calvary Cemetery.

Elizabeth MULQUEEN, who died yesterday at her home, 71 Palmetto street, was
born in Hawley, Pa., twenty-five years ago, and had been a resident of
Brooklyn for ten years.  She is survived by her mother, Bridget; her
father, William F.; two sisters, Mrs. Henry BRIED, of Westwood, N. J., and
Mrs. Charles McHUGH, and four brothers, Thomas, John, William and Daniel.
She was a member of the Church of Our Lady of Good Counsel.  The funeral
will be held on Saturday with interment at Hawley, Pa., under direction of
John T. SHEVLIN's Sons, of 529 Grand street.

Julia J. M. ARMBRUSTER, wife of Eugene ARMBRUSTER, died on Tuesday at her
home, 268 Eldert street.  She was born in Manhattan forty-nine years ago and
had been a resident of the Eastern District for many years.  She was a
member
of the Throop Avenue Presbyterian Church for thirty years.  Besides her
husband she is survived by a son, Eugene, and a daughter, Julia.  Funeral
services will be held tomorrow evening.  Interment at Lutheran Cemetery.

Louise H. DOSCHER, born in Brooklyn twenty-eight years ago, died yesterday
at her home, 818 Cypress avenue.  She is survived by her husband, Frank; one
child, her parents, Henry and Anna KLUTZPACH; five sisters and a brother.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 8 p.m. at her late home, with
interment at Evergreen Cemetery on Sunday at 10 a.m. under direction of

Annie R. JOFFE, wife of Isaac JOFFE, died on Monday at her home, 932
Flatbush avenue, after a short illness of pneumonia.  She was born in Russia
thirty-four years ago and was for several years in the women's goods
business in Flatbush avenue.  She is survived by her husband, two children,
Regina and Marion, and a sister and two brothers.

Edmund C. MURPHY. U. S. N. R., died yesterday in the Marine Hospital at
Tompkinsville, Staten Island.  He was a son of the late P. J. and Elizabeth
MURPHY and is survived by a sister.  Before enlisting in the Naval Reserves
he was connected with the Brooklyn Cooperage Company in a clerical capacity.

POLICEMAN MORGAN DEAD; SHOT OVER YEAR AGO
    Policeman Michael J. MORGAN, attached to Inspector McDONALD's personal
staff at Brooklyn Police Headquarters, died today at his home, 294 Pulaski
street, after a few days illness of pneumonia, the result of influenza.  he
is survived by his mother.
    Policeman MORGAN, on June 26, 1916 disguised as a sailor and after
bootleggers, was shot in the stomach by Frank BURROWS, who was later sent by
Justice CROPSEY to State Prison for six and a half years.  As the result of
the wound, MORGAN was confined to the hospital for four months.  The bullet
was never extracted.
    Policeman MORGAN received special commendation for the Police
Commissioner for his daring and for his courage in holding on to his
prisoner despite the fact that he was wounded.  He was known as a man always
ready and a man to whom no duty was too dangerous to handle.  He was 29
years old.

WILLIAM AND JOSEPH COBB BOTH DIE OF PNEUMONIA
    Two brothers, William and Joseph COBB, are dead today at their home, 145
Cooper street, as the result of pneumonia.  A double funeral will be held
tomorrow at 9 a.m. with requiem mass in St. Martin of Tours R. C. Church.
Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery under direction of FEENEY and Son, of 1857
Broadway.  William died last Sunday at Johnstown, Pa.  He was born in
Ireland thirty years ago and had been a resident of Brooklyn for
twenty-eight years.  Joseph died on Tuesday at his home,  He was born in
Brooklyn twenty-seven years ago.
    The young men are survived by their parents, John and Mary COBB; a
sister, Mrs. Paul BITTNER, and three brothers, Henry James and Bernard.
Joseph is also survived by his widow, Julia.

Capt. John J. TUOHY, of 80 Joralemon street, died Wednesday night at the
Germantown Hospital, Philadelphia, of pneumonia, following an attack of
influenza.  He was born in East Dorse, Vt., thirty-five years ago and had
lived in Brooklyn for more than twenty years.  He was connected with a
machine tool manufacturing company in Manhattan until the summer of 1917,
when he joined the Second Plattsburg Training Camp.  He was commissioned as
a captain in the Ordnance Department, where he was in charge of the
construction of trench mortars.  He is survived by his widow, Wilma ROGERS
TUOHY, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James J. TUOHY, and six sisters and
brothers.  Funeral services will be held at 7 o'clock tomorrow morning at
the R. C. Church of the Assumption in Cranberry street.  The body will be
sent to Vermont for burial.

Margaret FOGARTY, widow of John FOGARTY, formerly of the Visitation parish,
died suddenly yesterday at her home, 312 Fifty-third street.  She is
survived by three sons, John, Joseph and Edward; five grandchildren, James
and Richard YOUNG, John FOGARTY, on the U. S. S. North Caroling, and
Florence and Joseph FOGARTY, and two great-grandchildren.  The funeral will
be held tomorrow at 10 a.m. with requiem mass in St. Michael's R. C. Church.

Henry WEISBROD, 32 years old, died on Wednesday at his home, 1359 Hancock
street.  He is survived by his widow, Alice; a daughter, Florence; a
brother, Peter, and a sister, Elizabeth.  He was a member of the Ocean Hill
Reformed Church.  The funeral will be held tomorrow at 2 p.m. with interment
at Evergreen Cemetery under direction of the United Burial Company, of 1202 Broadway.

Walter J. BATES, second class machinist's mate, U. S. N., attached to the
Submarine Chaser No. 27, died last Friday at Norfolk, Va., of pneumonia. He
was born in Brooklyn twenty-seven years ago and enlisted immediately after
the declaration of war.   He had seen active service for the past fifteen
months.  He is survived by his mother and three sisters, Maude, Elizabeth
and Mrs. B. LeMONDE.  A military funeral, with a full naval escort, will be
held tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. from his late home, 66 South Hollywood avenue,

and was know in the world as Elizabeth McGLOIN.  She had been a member of
the order for six years.  She is survived by her parents, Malachi and
Elizabeth McGLOIN; two brothers, Malachi and Peter, and three sisters,
Sister Mary Placidia, of the Order of St. Joseph; Veronica and Teresa.The
funeral will be held tomorrow morning with requiem mass in St. James'
Pro-Cathedral.

Ann FITZPATRICK, who died on Tuesday at her home, 1737 Seventy-fourth
street, was born in Brooklyn thirty-two years ago and is survived by her
husband, Thomas; a daughter, Veronica; her father, Daniel KELLAR; a brother,
Joseph, and a sister, Mary KELLAR.  The funeral will be held tomorrow at
10:30 a.m. from the home of her father, 1731 Seventy-fourth street; thence

Charles William KLEIN died on Wednesday at his home, 90 Clinton avenue. He
is survived by his widow, Julia; two daughters, Dorothy and Pearl; his

Rudolph B. PLAGEMAN, a veterinary surgeon and a member of the Long Island
Kennel Club, died yesterday at his home, 194 Putnam avenue.  He had lived in
Brooklyn twenty-five years and is survived by his widow, Lydia, and a
brother, Victor, who is also a veterinary surgeon.  Funeral services will be
held tomorrow at 2 p.m., which the Rev. D. MORRIS will conduct.  Interment

Gustave Adolph ELFAST died yesterday at his home, 1576 Bergen street, after
a short illness.  He was born in Brooklyn twenty-nine years ago and is
survived by his widow and two children, his parents, one sister and two

Frances L. RYDER, who died yesterday at her home, 1345 Bushwick avenue, was
born in Brooklyn and had been a resident of the Bushwick section for three
years.  She is survived by her husband, Joseph; a daughter, Florence; her
father, Charles A. BARRETT, and her grandmother, Mrs. BARRETT.  The Rev. Mr.
MILTON, of the Sixth Avenue Baptist Church, will conduct services tomorrow

Corporal William SCHULTZ, of Company C, 207th Infantry, A. E. F., who was
wounded in action last June, died last Sunday at Newport News, Va.  He was
born in Brooklyn twenty-nine years ago and had been employed by the B. R. T.
before being drafted Oct. 12, 1917.  He is survived by his widow, Helen; his
mother, Mary; two brothers and four sister.  The funeral will be held on
Sunday at 2 p.m. from his late home, 885 Fresh Pond road, with interment at
Lutheran Cemetery under direction of BUSS and STOLZENBERGER, of Hallock and
Onderdonk avenues.

Loretta MAHONEY NEIDEN died today at her home, 426 Thirteenth street, after
a few days illness.  Mrs. NEIDEN was born in Brooklyn twenty-six years ago
and was educated in St. Peter's School.  She is survived by her husband,
Frederick; two daughters, a son, her mother, three sisters and two brothers.

Edward GORMAN, born in Brooklyn thirty years ago, died yesterday at his

Lieut. Henry George CAROW, M. D., of 553 Jamaica avenue, died Wednesday
night of pneumonia at Camp Upton, where he was attached to the Medical Corps
of the U. S. A.  Dr. CAROW was born in Brooklyn thirty years ago and was
educated in the Boys' High School, Long Island Medical College and the
Jefferson Medical School of Philadelphia.  He was a member of the James
Wilson Medical Society and the Edwin E. Graham Society and the Young Men's
Christian Culture Club.

Julia M. SMITH, 69 years old, died yesterday at her home, 1160 Gates avenue.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Clara OTTIGNOM and Mrs. Jessie

James Aloysius GALLAGHER, 24 years old, of 880 Sackett street, chief yeoman
in the U. S. Navy, died Wednesday of influenza at his home.  The funeral
will be held Monday at 9:30 a.m., with the celebration of requiem mass in
St. Agnes' R. C. Church, Hoyt and Sackett streets.  He is survived by his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. John J. GALLAGHER; and two sisters, Grace and
Margaret.He was born in the house in which he died.  He graduated from St. Agnes'
Parochial School and took a course in St. John's College, later being
employed by the Lehigh Valley Railroad in its legal department.  He was a
member of the Sheepshead Bay Boat Club; St. Agnes' Athletic Club and St. St.
Agnes' Church.  His father was one of the supervisors of the old city of Brooklyn.

Paul Lawrence SAUTER, son of William and Anna MALONE SAUTER, died on

Samuel L'HOMMEDIEU, single tax advocate, died Wednesday at his home, 409a

White Star Towing Company and was a member of the New York Chamber of
Commerce, the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce, and a trustee of the
Swedenborgain Church of New Jerusalem.  He is survived by a widow, Dr.

Lillian HAMMILL died on Tuesday at the home of her father, John A HAMMILL,

Dr. Edward M. THOMPSON, visiting orthopedic surgeon of the Kings County
Hospital, and a member of Local Draft Board No. 67, died Wednesday at his

ago, and had been a resident of Brooklyn for twelve years.  He was a
graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and New York University, and was
a member of the Kings County Medical Society, the Flatbush Medical Society,
the American Protective League and the Modern Woodmen of America.  He is

Orville WHEELER, district business manager of the Committee on Education and
Special Training of the War Department, died yesterday at his home, 680 East
Twenty-first street.  He was born in Burlington, Vt., forty years ago, and
had been a resident of Brooklyn for eight years and was a member of the
Masons and the Flatbush Congregational Church.  He is survived by a widow,
Rose; one daughter, Frances B.; four brothers, Edward of California, Dr.
John M. of Manhattan, Lieut. Henry O. and Major S. H. WHEELER, and his
mother.  The funeral was held today.

The Rev. James H. HAFFEY, assistant rector of the Church of St. Patrick in
Watertown, N. Y., and formerly a resident of Brooklyn, died on Tuesday.  He
was born in the parish of St. Mary Star of the Sea, Brooklyn, thirty four
years ago and was educated in its parochial school.  He studied at the Grand
Seminary, Montreal, and was ordained in that city in 1915.  He is survived
by his father, Cornelius; two brothers, Charles and William, and one sister,
Sister Agu??? Marie, of the Sisters of St. Joseph at Brentwood.  The funeral
will be held at 10 a.m. tomorrow from his late home, 149 Luquer street,

Elizabeth TROTTNER, who died Wednesday at her home, 46 Sixth avenue, was
born in Brooklyn and is survived by her parents, Elizabeth and Frank

fur brothers, Frank, Henry, Joseph and Albert.  The funeral will be held at

Chauncey street.  She died on Monday and is survived by her parents, Mary

Mary SYTON died Wednesday in the Flushing Hospital of pneumonia.  She was
born in New York City fifty-six years ago and is survived by one niece, Mrs.

Beatrice HARRISON HART, Ph. D., wife of Henry W. HART, died Wednesday night
at the home of her niece, Mrs. Charles H. TOWNSEND, 53 North Twelfth street,
Flushing.  Mrs. HART was born in Brooklyn, a daughter of Gabriel HARRISON,
artist, author, dramatist and doctor.  She received her degree at New York
University.  Dr. HART was the author of several works on literature, one of
her books being "Seven Great American Poets".  She was a charter member of
the Century Theatre Club of Manhattan and the president for four years.  She
was one of the organizers of the Brooklyn Ethical Association and of Seidl
Society of Brooklyn, and was among the early members of the Brooklyn
Institute of Arts and Sciences.  For thirty years she was a member of the
Second Unitarian Church of Brooklyn

Mass of requiem will be celebrated tomorrow in the Church of the Nativity
for Daniel J. KELLY, who died Wednesday at his home, 1168 Fulton street.  He
was born twenty-seven years ago in Brooklyn and was manager of the Peerless
Towel Company.  He is survived by his mother, Katherine; one brother, John

John A. ANTHONY died yesterday at his home, 418 Fourth avenue.  He was born
in Brooklyn and is survived by his parents, Alexander and Elizabeth ANTHONY,

Phillip MURPHY, born in Brooklyn fourteen years ago, died yesterday at his

The Rev. Patrick H. KELEHER, assistant rector of Our Lady of Lourdes Church,
died yesterday afternoon in St. Mary's Hospital.  Father KELEHER was born in
Brooklyn thirty-two years ago.  He made his preparatory studies at St.
Francis Xavier College, Manhattan, and was then sent to Rome by his
superiors, where he was ordained six years ago.  After returning to
America, he was stationed for a short time at St. Vincent de Paul's Church,
Manhattan.  The remainder of his priestly life was spent at the Church of
Our Lady of Lourdes in Brooklyn.  his sisters, Mrs. HARLAN, also passed away
a few minutes before him.  He is survived by two brothers and a sister.  One
brother, Robert, resides in Schaeffer street, the other brother, John is
overseas with the American forces.  His sister is a member of the Sisters
of St. Joseph and is stationed at St. Joseph's Church.  The funeral will be
held Monday at 10 a.m. from the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes.  Burial in
the crypt reserved for priests under the main altar.

Samuel B. WEAVER, the son of Eleanor and the late Theodore W. WEAVER, died
Wednesday at his home, 236 Chauncey street.  Funeral services will be held
at 8:45 o'clock tonight.

Harry SALVIN, co-proprietor of the Ritz Restaurant died yesterday in the
People's Hospital, Manhattan, after five days' illness from pneumonia.  Mr.
SALVIN was in his thirty-seventh year.  He was about the best known
restaurateurs in the country and had been active in this business for twenty years.

Anna COOKE, who died yesterday at her home, 543 Warren street, after a short
illness, had been a resident of Brooklyn for fourteen years and was a member
of St. Augustine's R. C. Church, Park place and Sixth avenue.  She is
survived by four children, two sisters and a brother.  The funeral will be
held on Sunday with interment at Evergreen Cemetery.

John W. KUTTEROFF died yesterday in his thirty-fourth year.  He was born in
Brooklyn, was a machinist and a member of St. Joseph's Society of St.
Barbara's Church.  The funeral will be held from his late home, 142 Palmetto
street, at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow.  He is survived by a widow, Pauline, and one
sister, Catharine BASSIMER.  Burial in Holy Trinity Cemetery under direction
of John SCHY and Son, of 313 Central avenue.

Olga N. O'ROURKE died yesterday in her fortieth year at her home, 57 Morton
street, Middle Village.  She was born in Sweden and was a member of St.
Margaret's Church.  The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow.  She is
survived by her husband and one daughter.  John SEHY and Son, of 313 Central
avenue, have charge of the burial in St. John's Cemetery.

Vincent DEMONO died yesterday at his home, 147 Ninth street, of pneumonia.
He was born in Brooklyn and is survived by his parents, Lawrence and Lucy
DEMONO.  The funeral was held today with burial in St. John's Cemetery under
direction of John M. DUFFY's Sons, of 432a Fourth avenue.

Jennie G. HODGSON, daughter of Margaret and the late Joseph HODGSON, died
yesterday of pneumonia.  She had lived at 1501 Dean street and was a
stenographer with the Standard Oil Company.  Besides her mother, she is
survived by two brothers, Harold F. and Joseph Frederick.  Funeral services
will be held Sunday at 2 p.m.  Interment at Evergreen Cemetery.

Paul C. WARNER died at his home, 1577 Pacific street, on Wednesday after a
brief illness.  He was born in Maryland twenty-six years ago and had lived
in Brooklyn for four years.  He is survived by his widow, Blanche; his
mother, Rhoda SAVINGER; his stepfather, William A. SAVINGER; a brother,
Harry, and a sister, Elizabeth.  Funeral services will be held at 9 p.m.
today.  Interment at Easton, Md.

Annie RUGGENO died on Wednesday at the home of her parents, Tony and
Angeline RUGGENO, 368 Columbia street.  The funeral will be held tomorrow at
2:30 p.m., with interment at Calvary Cemetery under direction of Edward H.
D. DUNN, of 339 Court street.

August P. BAYER died Monday at his home, 2563 Hughes street, Ridgewood,
leaving a widow, Sylvania; one son, Francis and one daughter, Marcella.  He
was born in the Eleventh Ward, Manhattan, sixty years ago.  His widow is the
daughter of Francis SNYDER, the inventor of the first tricycle, swinging
hobby horse, etc.

George Augustus ROESCH, 29 years old, a lawyer, died yesterday at his home,
92 Alsop street, Jamaica, of Spanish influenza.  He was born in the Eastern
District of Brooklyn, where he graduated from the parochial school of Most
Holy Trinity Church.  Later, he attended St. John's College, where he
received the degree of A. B.  He studied law at Forham University,
graduating in 1914.  After he was admitted to the bar, he was given a
position in the law office of Leander B. Faber in Jamaica.  He began the
practice of his profession independently about a year ago and opened an
office in the Jamaica Post Office Building.  He was district deputy of the
Eleventh District, Knights of Columbus; Past Grand Knight of Jamaica
Council, No. 337, K. of C.; a member of the Cathedral Club of Brooklyn; past
master of the Fuller Senate, Pheta Lambda Phi Fraternity of Fordham
University; a member of the Holy Name Society of St. Mary's parish, Jamaica,
and of St. Mary's Church Association; a member and formerly secretary of the
Jamaica Republican Club.  He also was a Republican County Committeeman, and
at the recent Republican State Convention, was a delegate from Queens
County.  He is survived by his father, Andrew C. ROESCH, and two brothers,
Charles A. and Theodore A.  Requiem mass will be celebrated in St. Mary's
Church, Jamaica, Monday morning.  Interment at St. John's Cemetery.

William JOHNSON died at his home, 184 Concord street, on Wednesday
afternoon.  He was 63 years old, and had been employed in the Brooklyn Navy
Yard for the past four years.  He is survived by four sisters, Mrs. Jennie
MILLER, Mrs. Catherine McGOWAN, Mrs. Mary LACKEON and Miss Emma JOHNSON.
Funeral tomorrow at 2 p.m. from his late residence under direction of Adam
MORAN of 170 Fulton street.  Burial in Calvary Cemetery.

After an illness of only a few days, Thomas CHANDLER, 28 years old, an
ex-jockey, know through out the country, died at Camp Sevier, S. C., where
he was a member of the Headquarters Company of the Twentieth Division.
CHANDLER lived with his parents, Mr. and Mrs George CHANDLER, at 286 Neptune
avenue, Coney Island, from which address he will be buried tomorrow.  A
requiem mass will be celbrated at the Church of the Guardian Angel, Ocean
Parkway, near Sheepshead Bay road.  Interment will be in Holy Cross
Cemetery.  He was known as the "lightest jockey in the world".  At
fifty-nine pounds, he rode his first winner.  In later years, he was a
steeplechase jockey, riding for Thos. HITCHCOCK, in taking to the turf,
CHANDLER followed his father's footsteps.  The senior CHANDLER was a rider,
trainer and owner.

Amelia DOOLEY died Wednesday at her home, 706 Grand street.  She is survived
by her husband, Frank R. DOOLEY, and two daughters, Mrs. Frank KEHRBAUM and
Mrs. Eugene REILLY.  Funeral services at  p.m. tomorrow.  Burial in Mount
Olivet Cemetery Sunday morning under direction of John T. GALLAGHER, of 204
Bedford avenue.

Marion M. CORBETT, who died yesterday at her home, 42 Hopkins street, of
pneumonia, was born in Brooklyn sixteen years ago.  She was a daughter of
James F. and the late Margaret A. CORBETT.  The funeral will be held
tomorrow at 9:30 a.m., with interment at Holy Cross Cemetery.  In addition
to her parents, she is survived by two brothers, James and William, and a
sister, Anna.

Hermann H. HEIN, died yesterday in his fiftieth year.  He was a member of
the Fourteenth Regiment, N. G. N. Y., and also of the Dewey Field band.  He is
survived by one brother, Charles H. HEIN.  Funeral from his late residence,
124 Prospect st. tomorrow at 10 a.m.  Burial in Lutheran Cemetery under
direction of Adam MORAN, of 179 Fulton street.

Oscar Frederick GROTTE, formerly of Greenpoint, died Wednesday at his home,
128 East Forty-second street, Flatbush.  He was born in Brooklyn thirty
years ago and is survived by a widow, Signa; on daughter, Magaretta, and
his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frederick GROTTE.  The funeral services will be
held tomorrow at ?  p.m., the Rev. J. C. HERRE and the Rev. Albert PIERCE
officiating.  Interment Sunday morning at Evergreen Cemetery under direction
of John K. WEIGAND, of 207 Nassau avenue.

WIFE'S DYING STATEMENT EXONERATED MORAN
Joseph F. MORAN, 28 years old, a boss stevedore, of  833
Lafayette avenue, appeared before Magistrate FOLWELL in Gates
avenue court to-day charged with the murder of his wife, Alice, on
Oct. 18.  Detective REAGAN, who took a statement from the woman
as she was dying in St. John's Hospital, testified that she had said
the pistol was accidentally discharged.  MORAN was committed to
jail until next Friday.
