"SINNOTT SEEKS TO BURN BORO'S ANCIENT PAPERS"
Thousands Cramp Space in Hall of Records, He Tells Court -
Some Date From 1811
Seeking to clear the Hall of Records of thousands of
ancient documents, County Clerk Francis J. Sinnott today
asked the Appellate Division for permission to destroy the
papers.
In his application, presented by his counsel, E. Ivan
Rubenstein, Sinnott said that the documents were not needed
and were occupying valuable space in his office.
Included among the documents are old insolvency papers,
dating from 1811 to 1874, which were the old State form of
declarations of bankruptcy, and also old judgements from
1816 on.
Mr. Sinnott also seeks to burn old coroner's papers,
which have gathered dust since that office was abolished
more than 25 years ago.
Joseph Lipsky, counsel for the State Education
Department, asked the justices to appoint a referee to
examine the old papers for possible historical interest
which would warrant placing them in a State museum.
Decision was reserved.

THWARTED LOVERS PLUNGE TO DEATH
Two lovers, frustrated in their efforts to marry, plunged arm-in-
arm to their death from a 385-foot-railway trestle in Claremont,
France.
Police found the shattered bodies, still enlaced in a last embrace,
on the rock-strewn bank of the Triyere River which passes under
the trestle. Police said the two, a 46-year-old man and his
fiancee, 26, had been prevented from marrying by the strenous
objection of the woman's parents.
