Brooklyn Daily Standard Union 1929 Fourty years ago a famous old pump stood at Hicks and Amity streets. "The old Dow Stores,' part of which can be seen in the background of the picture, were then the boast of Brooklyn's waterfront warehouses. Old-timers may remember those in the group James DUNNE, who owned the liquor store at the corner; John MURRAY, well-known baseball player, standing with the aid of a crutch, James BRANNIGAN, whose mother ran a grocery store nearby. Nobody seems to know what the large rock was for, unless the drivers tied their horses to it while they visited in DUNNE'S place, or the youngersters in the neighborhood used it to stand on while they drank of the water from the pump.
