VANDERVEER BARN, C. 1875.

Known as the VANDERVEER Barn It stood behind the residence of Mrs. Susan Boerum VANDERVEER at No. 153 Nostrand Avenue. Built by Folkert RAPELJE, on his farm about 1810 and was later bought by Mrs. VANDERVEER'S father, Henry BOERUM, who profited greatly from land speculation in the area. It is probably Susan VANDERVEER that is pictured here with one of the servants. The boy in the doorway poses with the then-popular bicycle known as the "ordinary." The barn was demolished about 1892.
