FIVE BROOKLYN POLICEMEN ON MULROONEY HONOR ROLL

 Commissioner Names 191 in all,With Three Posthumous Awards

 Police Commissioner MULROONEY to-day announced the names
of the 191 policemen accorded department recognition for meritorious
conduct in line of duty. There were 3 postumous awards, 34 honorable
mention and 154 commendations.

 The five Brooklyn policemen receiving honorable mention were;
Patrolman William J.LANGDON Jr., Ralph avenue precint,Jan 21,1931,
off duty,attempting to rescue woman in fire,fell from third floor
window, and is still on sick report.

Patrolmen Edward J.MULLER, William J.BURNS and Rubin HERDTSMAN,
Empire boulevard station,Feb 24, 1A.M., prevented a holdup and murder,
at St.John's place and Buffalo avenue; during an exchange of shots
MULLER was shot and one of the bandits was killed.

Patrolman Peter VOLBERG, Liberty avenue station,March 5, shot
and killed a holdup man and arrested another at 1041 Belmont ave.

  POLICE HONORS ARE ANNOUNCED
  To provide extra credit for certain patrolmen taking the sergeant's
examination today,tomorrow and Saturday, police honors were
announced to-day by Police Commissioner MULROONEY for
seventy-nine more members of the force.

  In the examinations nine thousand will take in the 258th Field
Artillery Armory, the Bronx, honorable mentions will count one point
each, commendations a half point each, and excellent police duty
citations a quarter point each.Ther were nine honorable mention,
thirty commendations and forty police duty commendations.

  Brooklyn policemen receiving commendations were:
-Detective Walter H.KELLY,main office,Brooklyn, and 
-Patrolman William RITZMAN, Feb 11, captured a machine gun bandit, who
had been terrorizing Brooklyn and Queens on an elevated station
at Grant and Jamaica avenues.

-Patrolman Philip J. SCHEAR, Clymer street station,May 31, captured
a man who had shot and killed another man at 131 Wallabout street.

-Patrolman Frank J. LUDWIG,Fifth avenue station,June 8, rescued a
man from burning building at 657 Sixth avenue.

  Those receiving excellent police duty citations were:
-Sergeant Francis GILL, Bedford avenue station, and Patrolman
James B.FERARRA,Greenpoint station, arrested three suspicious
men with gun in front of 462 Metropolitan avenue.

-Patrolman Robert S.SULLIVAN, Bedford avenue station,May 25, stopped
a runaway horse,Bedford avenue near South Third street.

-Patrolmen William SMITH and Walter F. GRANBERG, Herbert street
station, June 2, disarmed and arrested a demented woman who had
shot two men in front of 73 Devoe street.

-Patrolman Edward D.NOLAN, Clymer street station,June 5, pursued
three holdup men and arrested one for holdup at 160 Harrison avenue.
