TRAINED NURSES - COMMENCEMENT EXERCISES OF THE STATE SCHOOL
Presentation of Certificates, Diplomas and Prizes
Addresses by Clergymen and others.
The annual commencement exercises of the New York State School for Training
Nurses, in Concord street, took place last evening at the Institute in
Washington street.
The Brooklyn Training School is the oldest in the State, and one of the
oldest in the United States, and since its organization as many as sixty-six
nurses have graduated from it, or of whom twenty-seven have received
diplomas.
CERTIFICATES, DIPLOMAS AND PRIZES
The six ladies of the graduating class of 1882 occpupied the front seats, and
were attired in black dresses, aprons, and French caps. The graduates were:
Mrs. Josephine C. WATERS
Miss Mary C. HITCHCOCK
Miss Harriet L. OLIVER
Mrs. Louise F.WHITEHOUSE
Miss M.O. SAMSON
Miss Alice Piper
These ladies received certificates and in addition Mrs. WATERS was presented
wi a prize of $15.00 for the greates protictency in all departments, and Miss
HITCHCOCK received $10 prize for the best cookingfor the sick. These six
ladies will go forth from the institution this morning and serve as nurses
for one year, and at theexpiration of that period, it their deportment
andservices meet the commendation of the faculty, they will get a further
certificate at the next annual commencement

Second year renewal cerificates were received by

Mrs. Hattie STEVENS
Miss Emma L. JAQUES
Mrs. Harriet C. PARKER
Miss Alice J. WILLIS
Mrs. Mary K. AYRES
Mrs. Elsie E. ARNETTE
Mrs. Olema Foss WEBSTER
The four last named served acceptably as nurses for three years subsequent to
graduating from the institution.
