COMMONWEALTH LODGE #409 F.& A. M
Brooklyn Standard Union

The Commonwealth Lodge was established on the broad principals
of love, charity and benevolence, and as the name signifies,
"the common good or happiness."
Application was granted in May 1856, endorsed and strongly 
recommended by Joppa Lodge, No. 201.
The first meetings were held in the Old Mechanics Bank building,
Court & Montague streets.
In July 15 Brother Monroe F. GALE was raised to the sublime
degree of Master Mason.
The first death was July 20, Robert B. TURNER.

The lodge was one of thefounders of the Brooklyn Masonic Guild,
organized to build the rooklyn Masonic Temple.

Sixty-First anniversary. Honor Roll. In patriotism the lodge was  
never lacking for its sons fought and bled in the Civil War of 1861-65. 
Surviving members who fought in that war are:
R.W. Fred H. WRIGHT and Brother Edwin SELVAGE.  

Some of the members took part in the Spanish-American war. 
The lodge has a large honor roll of eighty-two members, 
three of whom have already given their lives as the supreme sacrifice.
