ROPERTY CONVEYANCES

City Register's office is located at the following office: City Register's Office, Brooklyn Municipal Building, Room 2 (between Court & Adams Streets) 210 Joralemon Street Brooklyn, NY 11201 (718) 802-3590 Open Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm For older conveyance records, you need to go to a room on the second floor. The older Libers are all on microfilm. It is helpful to show up at the Register's office armed with the Liber information (Liber# and page #); This information is available from a microfilmed index of property conveyances which I looked at at the N.Y.G.& B. Library (also available from Salt Lake). As a I remember it, the index was arranged alphabetically by year, and opposite the name and date, the Liber # was indicated. You may need to allocate a few hours to go through multiple Libers. This is a very busy office, so you may need to wait while the clerk pulls the various microfilms for you; there are limited film readers with printers, etc. It is very crowded at lunchtime - maybe early in the day would be better. But, old property records can be well worth the time - I found some very interesting records relating to transfers made by my greatgreatgrandfather in 1885-1887. Good luck!
