In 1860 there were 632 dwellings within this ward and the most densely 
populated part was what is now known as the 18th Ward.

In 1892 the 18th Ward was divided into 3 wards known as the 18th, 27th, and 
the 28th Wards, the new 18th Ward embracing Bushwick Green and Bushwick Cross 
Roads, the 27th and 28th Wards embracing Bowronville.
