BROOKLYNITES AT CORNELL

ITHACA, N.Y., June 17

At the 61st annual commencement of Cornell University
910 degrees will be conferred by President Livingston FARRAND. On the platform
with the president, will be the two surviving members of the class of 1869,
the first class graduated by Cornell. They are John A. REA of Tacoma, Wash.,
and Charles F. HENDRYX of Cincinnati.

   Among the graduates are forty-five Brooklyn and Long Island boys and girls,
many of whom have won distinction in the classroom and in outside activities.

Three Brooklyn students will graduate with degree of mechanical engineer:
   -Leslie Voss BERGMAN, 799 Sterling place, prepared at Technical High School.
He holds a state tuition scholarship.

   -Henry Valdemar OBERG, 183 Sixty-eighth street, prepared at Manual Training
High School. He is a member of Theta Xi fraternity. He has been active in
athletics.

   -Donald Armstrong SMITH, 7724 Ridge boulevard, prepared at Polytechnic High
School. He is a member of Sigma Chi fraternity.

Three Brooklyn students will receive a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture:
   -Fred John ERDMANN, 458 Ninth street, prepared at Manual Training High
School. He is a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity.

   -Carl Frederick Anker OLSEN, 755 Forty-ninth street, also prepared at Manual
High School. He is a member of Theta Xi fraternity. He has been a member of
the musical clubs for three years and active in college athletics.

   -Sidney Shepard WOLMAN, 799 Eastern parkway, prepared at Boys’ High School.
He has been active in athletics.

   -George Henry HEPTING, 3123 Beverly road, entered from Technical High
School. He is a member of Zeta Psi fraternity and of Helios, senior 
honorary society in agriculture.

   -Milton Henry McBRIDE, 279 Seventeenth street, will receive the degree of
civil engineer. He prepared at Technical High School and holds a State tuition
scholarship.

   -William Christian CORNEHLSEN, 732 Argyle road, will receive the degree of
Bachelor of Architecture. He is a member of Zodiac fraternity and of Gargoyle,
architectural society. He has been active in college athletics and in
dramatics. He has been a member of several committees.

   -Paul Nelson MARTIN, 1566 East Seventeenth street, will be the only Brooklyn
student to receive the degree of electrical engineer. He prepared at Lafayette
High School, winning a State cash and tuition scholarship and an undergraduate
scholarship. He is a member of Tau Beta Pi, honorary engineering society; Phi
Kappa Phi, honorary scholastic society, and Eta Kappa Nu, honorary electrical
engineering society. These are the three highest honors a student in the
department of electrical engineering can receive.

Bachelors of Arts
The following students from Brooklyn will receive the degree of Bachelor of Arts:

   -Foster James DATRE, 182 Bay street, entered from New Utrecht High School.
He has been a member of the musical clubs for four years. He has also been
active in undergraduate affairs, being a member of several clubs and
committees.

   -Morris GLUSHIEN, 815 Marcy avenue, entered from Boys High School. He holds
a State cash and tuition scholarship and has been awarded membership in Phi
Beta Kappa, honorary academic society. He was a member of the University
Orchestra his junior and senior years.

   -Howard JAFFEE, 156 Westminster road, prepared at Polytechnic Preparatory
School. He is a member of Phi Epsilon Pi fraternity. He was a member of the
varsity rifle team his junior and senior years.

   -Louis Arthur KASS, 873 East Tenth street, prepared for Cornell at Boys High
School, winning a State cash and tuition scholarship. He won his varsity
letter in basketball last season.

   -Gerald KLATSIN, 816 Eastern parkway, entered from Boys High School. He is a
member of Deutscher Verein, German club and has been active in debating.

   -Pasquale Jerome LAVIANO, 225 Bay Thirteenth street, entered from New
Utrecht High School. He is a member of Beta Psi fraternity. He is a member of
Circolo Italiano, Italian club.

   -Arthur LEFF, 1721 Forty-ninth street, prepared at Manual Training High
School. He is a member of Omicron Alpha Tau fraternity.

   -Benjamin LEVINE, 1911 New York avenue, prepared at Erasmus Hall High
School, from which he won a State cash and tuition scholarship. He is a member
of Phi Delta Mu fraternity. Besides playing in the university orchestra for
three years, he was awarded a Phi Beta Kappa key for scholarship.

   -Ralph Reeve MOSCOWITZ, 1135 Eastern parkway, prepared at Boys High School.
He has been active in athletics, being a member of lacrosse and wrestling
squads. He has been prominent in debating and is a member of Phi Beta Kappa.

   -Joseph Gerard PATERNO, 635 Carroll street, prepared at Manual Training High
School. He has been a member of the varsity wrestling squad for two years.

   -Irving Isadore PLOTKIN, 1494 Flatbush avenue, prepared at Boys High,
winning a State tuition scholarship. He is a member of Phi Delta Mu
fraternity. He was made a member of Phi Beta Kappa, honorary academic society
this spring.

   -James Durant PROCTOR, 1425 Carroll street, is a member of Phi Epsilon Pi
fraternity. He was editor in chief of The Columns, monthly literary magazine.

   -Jack RAPOPORT, 427 Kingston avenue, prepared at Manual Training High
School. He is a member of Sigma Alpha Mu fraternity. He has been active in
athletics.

   -John Stuart RIEDEL, 505 Macon street, prepared at Boys High School. He is a
member of Phi Beta Kappa.

   -Robert Edward ROTHENBURG, 67 Hanson place, prepared at Erasmus Hall High
School, winning a State tuition scholarship. He was circulation manager of The
Columns, monthly literary magazine.

   -Samuel ROTHMAN, 188 Rutledge street, prepared at Eastern District High
School. He holds a State cash and tuition scholarship and undergraduate
scholarship. He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa.

   -Maurice William SCHAAP, 299 Broadway, prepared at Erasmus Hall High School.
He is a member of Tau Epsilon Phi fraternity.

   -Charles SIEGEL prepared at Boys High School. He holds a State tuition
scholarship.

   -Morton SINGE, 1271 Eastern parkway, prepared at Boys High School winning
the Dinkley foundation scholarship. He has been very active in undergraduate
activities. Besides being a member of several athletic squads, he had been a
member of the Dramatic Club for three years and a member of the band and
orchestra.

   -Sidney STARK, 1466 President street, prepared at Boys High School. He is a
member of Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity.

   -Isidore STEIN, 1847 Forty-eighth street, prepared at Manual Training High
school. Besides holding a State cash and tuition scholarship, he won his
varsity letter in basketball this season.

   -Hyman TAUBMAN, 269 Albany avenue, prepared a DeWitt Clinton High School,
winning a State tuition scholarship. He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa.

   -Sidney Dennison TERR, 367 New York avenue, prepared at Boys High School. He
holds a State tuition scholarship. He is a member of Alpha Epsilon Pi
fraternity and of Phi Beta Kappa, honorary scholastic society.

   -Joseph Ira THALER, 286 Fountain avenue, prepared at Boys’ High School.
   -Nicholas Daniel TISCIONE, 709 Avenue W, prepared at Boys High School. He
has been active in athletics.

   -James Boone WILSON, 481 Stratford road, won a State tuition scholarship. He
is a member of Sigma Pi fraternity and of Delta Theta Phi, law society. He has
been a member of the musical clubs for four years.

Six Women Graduates

   There are six women students of Brooklyn who will be graduated from the
University this June:
   -Helen Chapin ALLYN, 24 Irving  place, will receive the degree of Bachelor
of Science in Home Economics. She prepared at Erasmus Hall High School. She is
a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority and Omicrom Home Economics Society.

   -Beatrice Consuelo JACKSON, 1104 Bergen street, will receive the degree of
Bachelor of Science in Home Economics. She is a member of the Dramatic Club
and the Women’s Glee Club.

   -Ethel Lee LIBSON, 263 Eastern parkway, will receive the degree of Bachelor
of Arts. She prepared at Manual Training High School.

   -Sylvia MOSKOWITZ, 7504 Third avenue, will receive the degree of Bachelor of
Arts. She prepared at Bay Ridge High School. She is a member of Sigma Delta
Tau fraternity.

   -Adria Ten BROECK, 1421 Glenwood avenue, will receive the degree of Bachelor
of Arts. She prepared at Packard Collegiate Institute. She has been active in
women’s athletics. She is a member of Kappa Delta sorority and of Penthama,
honorary society in athletics.
