Brooklyn Standard Union 17 June 1929 Graduates MANY BROOKLYN STUDENTS AMONG HONOR GRADUATES FROM SMITH 51 Borough Boys and Girls Get Diplomas and Awards (Special to the Standard Union) NORTHHAMPTON, Mass., June 17. Dr. Raymond FOSDICK of New York delivered the annual commencement address to the Smith College seniors here today at the fifty-first commencement exercises of the college. Yesterday President William Allen NEILSON delivered the baccalaureate address to the senior class, and Saturday night the historic and picturesque Ivy Day exercises were held. Five Brooklyn girls received their A. B.’s. They are : Hildegard RAUBENHEIMER, Frida SCHARMAN, Jessica SCOTT, Carolyn LACK Miriam COHEN. Miss Jessica SCOTT, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Winfield SCOTT, majored in French, was a member of French and Geology clubs and distinguished herself scholastically by being on dean’s list, which requires an average of B or better. She was also a member of the college swimming team and a college life guard. Miss LACK, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Hunter LACK, of 354 Ocean avenue, majored in English. Miss SCHARMAN, daughter of Mrs. Augustus SCHARMAN of 108 Rugby road, majored in sociology and was a member of the Sociology Club. She was also a member of Vox Club, the society maintained by the department of spoken English for those girls showing proficiency in that subject, and of Phi Kappa Psi, one of two honor societies at Smith, membership in which is by election and depends on good academic standing and proficiency in one of the arts. She was also prominent in athletic activities, being a member of the hockey and basketball teams and on the first freshman tennis team. She was house president during her senior year and a commencement usher in her junior year. She was also interested in dramatics and held the position of business manager of the dramatic association. Miss RAUBENHEIMER, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Otto RAUBENHEIMER of 1040 Bergen street, majored in German and was a member of German Club, membership in which is determined by proficiency in that subject. Miss COHEN, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lippman COHEN of 2134 East Twenty-second street, majored in English. She was on the second hockey team in her junior year. She was also a member of the special dancing group which is for girls showing especial ability and interest in rhythmic dancing.
