HICKSVILLE HOME COMMENCEMENT EXERCISES
The commencement exercises at St. John's Home, Hicksville, were held last
Sunday.
The awarding of medals took place in the chapel and was followed by
benediction. The singing of the choir boys was supplemented by a beautiful
rendition of "Ave Maria" by Arthur SOMERS. The Rev. Bernard QUINN, in his
address to the boys, spoke of the manliness of moral courage and the need
today of the man who can say "No" to temptation. The exercises were followed
by a lawn fete. The boys in their white suits looked very attractive as they
sang, framed by the arch of foliage and daisies. Mr. SOMERS, addressing the
boys, impressed upon them the necessity of being loyal to their school. He
told the audience of the danger to the Catholic school system in the bill now
being urged in Washington for the federalization of schools.
Joseph KEANEY delighted the youngsters with his characteristic humor, but at
the same time taught them the value of true courage and adherance to
principle in these days of shifting standards.

Joseph MC LAUGHLIN
