Will Was Written on Newspaper Wrapper

There is a lot of curiosity to know what the Scotch newspaper, the
Fiery Cross, on the wrapper of which is written the will of John
STIRLING, of 76 Henry street, contains. Victor KANE, chief probate clerk
in the office of the Surrogate, where the remarkable will was filed this
afternoon, believes there is something wrapped in the paper that the
deceased intended as a surprise for those who open the document.

The newspaper is dated probably a half century ago, for it is yellow
and almost brittle. The clerks in the Surrogate’s office, whose close
attention was attracted to the document today, handled it with the
utmost care.

The will itself is as short a one as has been filed with Surrogate
KETCHAM in many a day. It is just this:
“I, John STIRLING, bequeath all my real and personal property
to my wife
      Catherine STIRLING.”

The will is dated May 16, 1906, and was witnessed by D.J. and F.M.
BOTTY. STIRLING died April 12 last. It is written in pencil and in
microscopically small letters.

Many years ago STIRLING received the copy of the Scotch newspaper.
When the time came for making his will, STIRLING wrote it on the
wrapper.
