Brooklyn Public Library
31 years of Brooklyn city and business directories, covering a period from 1856 to 1908.
Most of these were printed by the J. Lain Company of Brooklyn, and include not only listings of citizens but also street guides,
advertisements, and listings for government agencies and social services.
Brooklyn City Directories consulted were 1822--1867.
What this author apparently did was to scout out old historic buildings/houses (in Brooklyn Heights)
that were still in existence (in 1960--at the time of compilation of this book) and wrote about their
architecture. As he wrote about each current house he would consult the city directories and
note who lived at what building/house during a certain year.
He also noted the current house number and then note the old changed house number)
